That's another part added to the shopping cart!
I think most of these parts will be shot and need replacing, after all they are 38 years old!

Re: 1981 Mini City 1000

Great work, planning on attempting mine this weekend, both need the bottom repair panels. Same process as the bootskin? There's a few spot welds to drill out too? Yes there are a few spot welds. One behind the handle, a few around the edges plus the seam weld on both sides at the top. Don’t use the...

Got the outer skins off both doors. Just a strip at the bottom that needs replacing on both. 2A603A64-B298-4C74-98F5-132BB045B3AE.jpeg Passenger side is a little worse for wear but very repairable. Lots of welding to do but just think I will be a dab hand at it when this is all done (note: keep sayi...

Re: 1981 Mini City 1000

Was it hard getting the boot skin off? Did you grind it or unfold it? Just use a 60 or 80 grit flap disk on the edge until you see a hairline crack in the steel, that will indicate that you have ground down through the bend of the fold of steel. There are four spot welds you will need to remove. Tw...

Stripped the outer skin off the boot. Have a heritage replacement but will need to cut out some rust and replace some metal on the inner one before it can be considered usable. Re: 1981 Mini City 1000

The more you work on these minis the more you realise how bad the manufacturing process was. Amazing how any of these survive. Bare metal with no protection. Seam sealer plastered everywhere. Re: 1983 Mini City

My problem is that I am putting too much heat into the panel when grinding down the welds and warping my patch panels.

Won’t be touching any new panels until I get my technique right and I can do this butt welding with confidence. Damn it’s a different set of challenges compared with thicker steel.

Re: Average cost of a late 70s early 80s Original Irish Mini?

Hi Brian For a restoration, the amount of money you will spend on the car will be insignificant compared to how much you will spend on restoring it. Rebuilding an engine just to clean it the costs will be low, but once you start machining, buying pistons, ancillaries, gearbox bearings, camshafts, cy...

Re: 1983 Mini City

Are you using one of those disposable bottles? If so get yourself a 10L or 20L bottle from stargas instead. Remember with MIG the current is controlled by wire speed and arch length by the voltage switches. Also switch to 0.6 if you are not already using it. And practice, practice, practice. All tho...

Re: 1981 Mini City 1000

Looks like your making good progress! Inner wings are looking good, have you much to do around door frame? Have you a company in mind for blasting? The blaster I used said it was pretty hard to get the epoxy off for welding prep, but I see plenty of people using it so can't be that bad? Driver side...

Small amount of old collision damage that I will need to cut out of the inner wing at the bottom. Picked up the subframes that got reblasted, but it's too cold to take them from car to shed, so they can stay in the car for now..
Oh it’s cold alright. Even in my garage using an air tool I can last about 1 hour. Ordered one of those propane blast heaters to warm the space up.

Yours gonna be the City and Stripe 10, 11, CTWOMEY?
Yes, that's the one. Exactly same model as you dad's Nautilus Blue but in Emberglow Red, same colour decals.

Thanks for sharing, lovely photo to have.
