Name and shame. There's too much of that crap going on. It's obviously somone pulling a fiddle to dodge NCT, Tax, and possibly VRT.

I assume this is the car:

No matter what this lad tells you, it wasn't legally reshelled as a '76. And even if he tells you it was reshelled in the UK 3 years ago, it still wouldn't have been given an old-style Cavan reg when it was imported.

My suggestion is to walk away.

Thanks billy :D yeah that's the car absolutely perfect apart from running rich the car is solid but I was handed 2 vin plates and 2 logbooks so something seemed dodgy , hope this saves someone else the disappointment : :)

If the shell is as good as it says its proberbly not a UK import so no VRT, the price would still be right for a 1990 in that condition so why risk being hauled up for fraud unless the source of the shell is dodgy! Was the vin number still on the shell ?

The "Power Engineering" sticker in the back windscreen is from a rolling road business based in Uxbridge near London.

At least it's not as obvious as that 67 cooper s up in Derry on donedeal at the moment or that 1968 blue mini with the matching trailer that was for sale on donedeal for ages last year. If I came across them then it would be a straight seize and like a lot of older cars with not matching numbers it would be off to the crusher I'm afraid.

The vin plate stamped on the car matches the logbook , Theres ink all over the logbook and Theres 1971 stamps on it even though its supposedly 76 , then there's another vin plate to match up with uk plates , shell looks like a 90s shell solid enough bad floors though. There looks to be a good €4000 spent on it at so when I was offered it for €2k I knew it was too good to be true

What is the story so with a car that has been legitimately reshelled in the UK and imported to this country on a ZV or age related plate. We all know that practically every remaining Works Mini is a reshell but who on this site would not like to have one in their garage. And as regards VIN number matching, the DVLA did not stipulate that shells should be stamped until early 1980 so anything before that would only need 2 rivets and a plate. It is a grey area for properly reshelled cars IMHO.

It's legal to do so in the UK and it will be recognised here.

In this case though, if it had been reshelled in the UK 3 years ago and then brought over here, it would have either a 71CN or a ZV plate. They stopped issueing the old styles plates in 1987 so whatever way you look at it, this seller is not being kosher.

It's back! Though this is probably an example of a UK reshell where it's apparently legal.

That mini was built in the uk in the late 90's early 00's. It was a cover car in mini mag or mini world back then so all is legit. Don't know about the engine though.

As far as I know in the UK for a car to be classed as a reshell a certain amount of the original car must be retained, I don't see many 60's bits on that car.
More likly it was transfaired onto an age related plate and then imported here and reregistered based on its plate age. I would think an insurance company could very easily get out of settling a claim againest this car.

The seller would be better off selling it back to someone in the UK. The original 68 reg could be reinstated there

Sounds like some very good reasons to leave it where it is!! When somethings too good to be true, it usually is. Just remember, if you do buy it, when you go to sell it the prospective buyers will be asking the same questions as you are now, and will walk away.

There are plenty genuine cars out there to buy (Mini's aren't especially rare) so there's no need to buy a dodgy one.

Then again, you could break it, sell the parts, turn the back end into a trailer and the front end into a barbeque or sofa...

that mini should be well know. originated in Dublin on uk plates at the time, has benn at mosney and other events. Sold to Mayo, and sold again locally to a guy that cleared it to the current 68 mo plates. We did a lot of work with it at the time, got new front and resprayed along with a lot of other bits. The trailer was made at the same time from an old shell we had here. Actually still have the original UK plates here hanging on the wall of the garage.

Current engine is a 1275 out of '95 sprite. Was a very good low milage engine, 40k miles i think at the time. We still have the original 1380 here that was featured in it ;-)

Your man sold that blue mini a few days ago. I am friends with him on facebook. Wouldn't like the reg on what is clearly a newer mini tbh.

Listened to a comedian on radio earlier telling a story about a road sweeper who had the same broom for last thirteen years. Turns out he changed the shaft 6 times and the brush 10 times. Defending his original statement , he produced a picture of the original broom to compare with present one and said "looks the same".
Just wondering if there are really many 100% original minis out there.

Ffs, that was Trigger from Only Fools & Horses who died during the week.

No need for the abusive acronym, was just wondering if there were any very low mileage minis in Ireland that we're completely original.

As Del Boy would say "a fait acopian"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/onlyfools/lingo/euro.shtml

But getting back on topic, Benny, is it the fake Cavan-reg blue Mini that your buddy has sold? Interesting if the new owner joins this forum and realises what he has bought. Could get legal. It's a small country and it won't be long before that car appears on a run or at a show and someone makes a comment.
