Oil light

I started my GT earlier for the first time in months and the oil light stayed on for a long time, which I reckon can't be good.
It has done this before but not for as long.

The oil is up to the full mark on the dipstick.
Any suggestions for what I should be looking at to sort it out?
Should I be looking at the oil pressure relief valve? Change the oil and filter?

I'd say it was just the oil pump took a little longer to prime (oil might have been thicker with the temperature), If you leave it lying for a few months again just disconnect the HT lead and crank it for a few trys first, just to get some oil up into the pump and circulating before you start it properly

check the strainer in the sump common on Toyota 1.3 for blocking feed to oil pump , might help

Agree with macker, the longer you leave an engine stand in changing temperature with expansion and contracting of fluid the more chance of getting air in the pump. That engine has a few miles on it so there will be wear in it that won't help. Always a good idea to prime an idel engine by turning it over a few times before starting it. They say most engine wear occures in the first few seconds of starting it up any time.

Thanks lads. It did take a fair bit of turning over yesterday before it started.

Fired it up today and the light went out straight away.
Sound like the answer might be to start it more often.

Woody - you are right about the mileage! There is 90 odd thousand on the clock but it's done a bit more than that
