1968 ELF MK3

Post by Stuie.91 »

Said will start thread on this as we have finally started to strip the car for its rebuild. So we got this elf a while ago and got the last or the shows out of it really went to Dunboyne in it some of you may have seen it there.

Image

This was it when we got it so had been sitting up for a few years and it had not really done it any favours.
Paint was flat, and rust had gotten to all usual places.

We started to strip it this week so got interior out, lights etc. and stated to take engine bay apart hoping to drop the subframes and everything else from it this week.

Dad has already started to restore the dash and few other bits will update with more pics soon

Does it need much welding Stuart and make sure the welder covers the glass.Nothing ruins glass like welding and grinding sparks.

Well we have gotten new sills for it there was some box section put over them years ago and looked awful. Also got 2 front floor pans and both a panels. Have different doors and bootlid for it and needs small repair on the bonnet. Needs a few small other bits aswell. Yeah all the glass will be coming out so hopefully will be left in good condition. Should have it back in a month or so. Looking forward to seeing the new paint

Was up at Trimtech today to collect the subframes and the glass. Car is coming along great the passenger side is completely finished, new inner and outer sills are on aswell as a-panels, footwell and few repairs on the wings. He has started on the rear on the car repaired all around the floor and bootlid. When the home made box section sills were taken off there was nothing there apparently. See photos below.

Got a few bits from Newton today. Carpet, Headlining, visors etc. Really like the Blue carpet think will be nice colour combination with the paint. Also I dropped the Subframes and wheels down to the powder coater. Threw the spare wheel out of the clubby estate in aswell never liked the yellow colour it was painted by previous owner.

More updates I picked up the subframes from the Powder coater today they look better then new. Were sandblasted back to bare metal and re done from there.

Image

Also got two spray outs for the Persian Blue and Snowberry White from the painter.

Image

Different shade of blue then I was expecting but looks really nice with the white.

I also have all the pedal box, heater matrix all repainted ready for re assembly when the shell arrives back. It is ready to go the painter is waiting for a slot to fit her in Thinking it should be tomorrow or Friday and should have her back in a week or two.

Nice work being done there.

Do you mind me asking how much the paint job is. And how much did the subframe work set you back. My rear one needs doing as the rust is starting to come throug.

Hi Coolmini,

I am getting 6 wheels done with the two subframes so dunno if he did some package deal. But was charging €200 for the two subframes which I thought was really good. Considering the finish they came back with, and it included sand blasting. As for the paint I was getting Trimtech to do the welding and paint, there was a few more bits of welding then expecting so may push price up so can wait and see what it is. But the initial quote I got I thought was very reasonable as I have heard stories of people paying the same amount for the welding only.

Will keep you posted
