How bad is this subframe?

Post by davem »

Had my rear subframe blasted and this is the results.

It's like it's bulging or swollen or something in a few places. What is this, did someone use chemical metal or something at some stage?

In spite of this there is nowhere that a screwdriver will go through.

I took the grinder with a flap disc to some of the raised areas just to see. The high points broke away but I don't want to go too deep or too hard.

Thanks,

Dave

That is where rust started between two plates and bulged the metal. It does not look to be terminal and if you are handy with a grinder and a MIG welder it is worth saving as the price of subframes is only going up.Bear in mind that the repairs need to be carried out properly as it is a load and suspension carrying part.Magnum do repair panels for the bottom of subframes, here are the part numbers for them.
