NCT Vin Location Question

Well failed the NCT again earlier, if it was a sport I'd be close to turning professional at this stage.
Anyway the grumpy hole polish lad who tested me grunted something about the VIN number
being in the wrong place. (they didnt fail me on it, just a gentle hint that they will fail
me if i dont locate it somewhere else)

This is where its stamped at the moment. He said its the wrong place.

Whats the alternative? Can I get a little 'official' ally plate stamped and pop rivet it to the wing?
I was honestly close to punching the NCT guy because he couldnt understand
my resistance to stamping into fresh paint on one of the biggest rust traps
know to man :)

Any advice would be great, thanks guys :)

Vin number is stamped in the rain channel of the slam panel between the wipers.

I had similar trouble but my mpi does not have the vin stamped anywhere on the body. It just has the pop rivited plate on the inner wing. I took the original owners manual and a haynes in order to show them that they had got it wrong, again.

thanks for the replies guys. my problem is there is no marking on the scuttle/rain channel.

i assume this was replaced when the car was restored a few years back.
somebody then re stamped the car in the location shown in the pic.
if i need to get the car stamped, is this possible to get done?

sorry im completely clueless about this end of things and the NCT
rules are seriously vague.

also im aware that this whole area can be a very suss in regards to
log books and the like, but this is a genuine car and i just want to
have everything above board :)

Hi Maxi

Joe conboy has ran into this problem a couple of time, the solution is to stamp the correct number into the scuttle rail. I have the number and letter stamps if u want to borrow them.

Hijacking this thread slightly, but I've the vin plate in a box in my boot. It was removed when it was being restored. Where/how should I attach it? It's a 1275gt

Maxi - if you call the Dublin Stolen Car dept in Harcourt Garda station, they will come pay you a visit and may be able sign off on the car being legit and giving you a certificate to give to the NCT crowd. I just produce my cert every year for the NCT no hassles
