Roof rack finnish's

Post by joeyfinneran »

Im in the process of building a roof rack for the mini and im think ahead of how to coat it.
Iv a few options:
Powdercoating
Galvinising
Or paint with rattle cans

I would like a silver one as im puttinf teak slats on it ans silver and teak look well together. So id like a noce shiny finish thats weather proof. That would make gavlinsing out wouldnt it ?
And i only ever seen powdercoating in white or black and many people say its flakes off ?
And painting with cans would give it a very good weather proof plus im shity enough with paintin havent had much pratice as of yet

Oh buy the way its 3/8 GB pipe so it will rust :( if not done right

Wil post photos when done, im about half way there now

All Motorbike frames are powder coated & sealed, they get more stones & deride than any roof rack ever will & Ive yet to see one chip, other than dropped spanners, screw divers & outta control angle grinders
Want a rack for my own, be very interested to see how yours comes out.
Best of luck

Right update time on this one. Just rack done. Tuck so long as i ran out of gas saturday so finished off the rest of the welding today. Have parts of the clamps made/ borrowed for the transit . Have to wait for feet before i cut the clamps to size then its off to powder coating. Have teak ordered for the middle so should have that during the week. Was think bees wax instead of varnish always liked the look and feel of the finish bees wax gives.
Anyway We'll just let pics speak for them selfs

Ps

The total cost = 0 :P

Got pipe for free
Welding rods borrowed from fas
Clamps borrowed from transit. (Roof rack is rotten anyway, king pin are **** quality )
Screws were in the shed

So only cost will be wood and powder coating :D
