Engine running on

88 metro 1275 a series twin su crabs kent cam . After letting her running for a bit turn off the ignition and keeps turning over for 5 to 10 seconds , tried changing the timming helped a bit but was pinking when driving, Anyone come across this problem and any ideas of dealing with it .
tappets to tight???? Or would it effect it?

Firstly the tappet gap is determined by the cam ,wilder the cam larger the gap, so you will nedd to determine what it should be.
Detonation is generally caused by overheating, timming off or mixture off, wrong sparkplugs, too high CR.
Have you balanced the carbs and set the mixture using a gauge?
Is the dizzy matched to the speck of the engine?
Are you running the right plugs for the engine spec?
Have you changed the CR?
Can you give us a full list of engine mods and spec.

Thanks for the reply , at the back of the ignition there is a plastic with the wiring on the back of it (not sure what it's called) but took it out and cleaned it up and starts first time and turns off now without running on !
Fingers crossed that was the problem!
