howdy... making a comeback
Howdy all
Liz and Brian here, we have owned our, '66 mk1 850 morris mini minor 850 superdelux for nearly 10 years now. have met loads of great people here over the years. so after 3 kids, plenty of employment/income troubles, like most, I am determined to get our baby back on the road for the summer. renew our club membership and get out and about with the mrs and some old friends
good old days, we do not currently look this well !!!!
unfortunately we blew the headgask a few years ago, that was sorted with the help of a mod on here, however other niggles led to a period of non use and she is currently on axles stands with a few mechanical and bodywork issues to be sorted, although nothing crazy. she has 3 sets of wheels in the shed, none of which of course have tyres, so black circles are high on the priority list. she will be going back on here steels with some new tyres and chrome hub caps.
So, thanks to Simon for helping me get the account back up nd running and be aware, I am going to be asking lots of questions and looking for parts, advice, help.
roll on summer

This is just madness!!! I put my mini into storage and head away and then everyone gets theirs back on the road... typical... Maybe Elmo will buy mine when he arrives home....
Good to hear that prissy is getting back on the road, cracking car.

Yeah, I'll be back. But I just hate to think of my mini not being used... I am already building a store of parts at home for it and have plans for it when I get back...

Re: howdy... making a comeback
This should be. Good come back lads
Re: howdy... making a comeback
Hello all
we are back .... yes again, yes I know, I really really do
as we all know life just has a habit of happening, but things are on the up and poor prissy is going into a shed and the angle grinder is coming out. She hasn't come down off those stands since feb 13. I intended on sorting the running gear and then tackling some minor bodyworks over time, a sort of running resto. But. While she will turn over fine she has no spark.... prettymuch everything has been changed/replaced/refitted and changed again. Its a flippin mystery. Meanwhile the demon weather has done some damage, sills, steps, door bottoms all need work.
So
My fathers vw camper has left its shed for final prep and paint and our girl is going in. To be stripped, all the rot cut out and put back together over the winter. The shed is a fantastic facility so I will be making the most of the opportunity.
All her spares etc are now boxed and inside, next I need to get her on wheels and then trailored 5 miles or so to the clinic.
I have 2 sets of wheels but no 0tyres so borrowing a set for transport is next up.
So lots of parts asks, technical queries and we really should renew our membership and pop out to clonsilla some evening.
hi folks.
And thanks tpo the mods for sorting the account. Cheers guys

all depends on who's easier for you to get wheels off now

Re: howdy... making a comeback
Thanks Macker, I cheated and went local, heir youngfella has lent the below my way (by proxy)
she is back on terra firma
when we bought her in 2003 we knew there had been a passenger side sill replaced. It seems this may have been made of cardboard and glued on.... its coming away in chunks with just finger pressure. The step is destroyed too - the assumption is that the inner sill is gone too. Driver side is similar but not as bad so we will cut out the worst side first.
Should have her in doors by mid week.
here we go

Re: howdy... making a comeback
I have a (outer) door step repair panel and a drivers side wing if you're interested
Re: howdy... making a comeback
hey
the wings seem to be good, I'll know more once I get stripping. If at all possible though I want to keep as much original metal as I can.
All the upper body is rock solid, its just door bootoms (frame and skin), sills, lower parts of the A-panels and these steps.
I'll defo take any step repair panels you have

Re: howdy... making a comeback
The years have not been kind to her but now that the VDub is out of the way it will be great to see it being put to right.

Re: howdy... making a comeback
Ok, so she is now indoors in her new winter cave.
Its a large shed with good light/security and power. We need to do some rearranging and then get her stripped. Sills, steps and bottom couple of inches most of the way around. So I need to pick a panel provider too.
The heritage panels seem very expensive and I have heard good stuff about M-machine panels. I suppose starting with sills and then going from there. One side at a time and propoerly bracing the shell as we go
The bottom of the door frame/pocket and skin are all rusted, so I am considering sending the doors away to be worked. Its expensive but I want to keep as much of the original car as possible.
She is still not running though, we changed teh headgasket a couple of years ago and she ran fine, I then replaced a lot of ignition parts and now we get next to no spark. everything is free but no spark. Its not a priority as the engine will likely have to come out with the subframes, which seem solid, but could do with refurb.
The other priority is the hydrolastic suspension. I want to keep her on a wet system, will need to test all the displacers and refurb where needed - hoses etc, parts are getting harder to get it seems so I want to do the system right now and have it sorted for the future.
Anyhow as winter comes I suppose the cave will be my new home
oh and still need any steel wheels/crappy tyres anyone might have lying about, just for workshop duties
