Love that K&N! How much air will it get thou considering most of it will be inside the hood of the bonnet? Will it only be from the bottom or is there enuf clearance all round? Shame to hide that too really

Fitted the air inlet temp sensor
As regards to space there is a gap of 20mm right around the air filter even on the bottom as it's only the front lid that's close to the cross rail.
I bent the back part of the cross rail down for more clearance.
That k&n is rated for 220bhp doubt I'll be getting near that though.

The hinges came from mini spares.
Fully articulated bonnet hinge or something like that. They are out of stainless steel. Clever piece of kit that but not cheap.

Lol. Is the hinge in a different place on the elf and woody? There's loads a space for a servo even with the standard hinge setup

Mk1 and Mk2 hinges are further in where the indent is on the bulkhead, where the servo bolts to the bulkhead.

Daft question.
Do other minis smell of petrol in the boot.
The tank ain't leaking and all hoses are good and tight there is a breather pipe that goes under the car with some sort of a check valve on top of the tank. It's an mpi tank by the way. Bit baffled about that one. It's been going on since day one actually

It's usually the tank breather pipe not exiting the boot space and venting into the cabin space.
Not sure about Mpi though.

Will do in the new year.
Have wideband lambda sensors in so am taking it nice and easy. Pulled the ignition timing back at above 50 throttle by 2 degrees just in case. Full ignition timing is now at 28 degrees.
Have a problem though.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on it. My heater ain't working now did I do something wrong? Coolant is topped up and keeping the engine nice and cool. It used to work but the setup was slightly different. I now have the bypass coming from the front of the cylinder head instead of from the thermostat housing.
Oh and obviously she runs as smooth as a purring kitten super smooth idle and tuned the standing revs up to 3000rpm to 13.5 afr accross the range.
Might take it for the first spin tomorrow to tune up to 50 % throttle. Did turn the car around in the yard so that the tail pipe wasn't blowing all the smoke into the garage.

Right have the heater problem fixed i think,
seems like it was getting air locked somehow,
what i did was clamp the return line from the cylinder head to the heater matrix hose at the t piece that goes into the bottom radiator hose to stop recirculation, open the heater valve. Then start the engine from cold.
E voila nice hot heater after a few minutes.
At the same time i tried to tune cold starts and now realised that the car need totally different values then with the previous setup.
as i now have 4 injectors to feed 4 cylinders instead of 2 injectors.
with 2 injectors i needed double the idle injection value, now i just need a bit above the same value as during idle.
Ah well 2 sparkplug sets later as i flooded some trying to work it all out.
the joys of setting up injection from scratch again.
During all that i ran out of petrol just to top it off and the lambda sensor for the inner cylinders packed in.
probably got fuel contaminated during cold starts.
Have it in the hot press now to dry it out and hopefully it might work again after.
At least now the car starts cold or warm with the slightest of dabs at the throttle.

Right another update. Changed the position of the O2 sensor down to the y link pipe. Seems to work better that way and ditched the second O2 sensor as I won't be needing it no more. Had a bit of an accident with thinners on the front so the paint started rippling. Ah well. Also started to spring an oil leak around the timing chain cover. Not sure if it's coming from the half moon seal or the crank seal or the timing cover seal. Hmm no time to look at that now.

Found the route cause of my problems
A lesson learned about second hand injectors even if they are cleaned.
One of them was leaking quite badly.
Turns out that warm petrol is a great paint stripper.
Biting the bullet on 4 new injectors so now am just gonna have to wait.
No wonder I couldn't get my fuelling right.
And my O2 sensor getting fuel soiled.
Am surprised that the engine idled that smooth though cause essentially it was running on 3 cylinders as one of the was hopelessly over fueled.
