89 'psycho' mini

Post by drifthooligon »

hello all ! Noel here, restoring my 89 mayfair with a 00 mpi cooper as the doner car 8) . Heres the background story, a few years ago my sister's mpi was sadly involved in a fender bender with a taxi. long story short im reshelling it with an 89 auto mayfair :) , its aptly called psycho as that's what the previous owners daughter named it when she drove it. it started out as a simple '' lets make it to to be exactly the same'' but that soon got the boot  . now its a team effort between me and my father to make a one of a kind sportspack cooper look a like

the aftermath

I would say that the mpi engine in late 80's steel gives the best of both worlds but that is some dog of a shell. Good luck with the build at least you have some decent elbow room for the metal work.

yea hopefully it'll be safe as houses, time will tell though and as for elbow room it comes in handy so we're not on top of eachother while workin on the shell . I'm hoping to go with a subaru paint colour (86f for whoever wants the paint code) which is steel blue on the uk spec imprezas but steel grey on the jap spec imprezas and for the wheels, bmw's artistically named sepang bronze paint. yea the sunroof is for sale maverick, it's in the for sale section under webasto sunroof most of if not all the info youll need is there

Alas ger from the accident the shell is slightly distorted and was written off so not for road use sorry. Is it still worthy of autograss though :? May consider making a trailer if theres enough meat left on her after we're done 8)

Thanks ger im stongly thinking of making a trailer if at all possible but its unlikely as we may be using most of the panels from the shell as teplacement panels where possible. If its just a half shell you're after theres a rear half of a shell on donedeal for 350 i think it is

This look so familiar with when i started stripping mine.
Except when i bought it it was all covered in filler so didn't really know untill i started wire brushing.

Best of luck with the rebuild and body work, don't get dis encouraged half way through when you find more rust holes.

Got a citroen cantia from an aunt of mine which was meant to be a daily driver but low and behold, no taxbook :? Decided to break it instead so ill be using the exhaust from the xantia to make my straight through for psycho, its 2" so should have a fairly decent sound

So gents after 7 years of owning the mayfair i finally got the finger out and sorted the logbook out 8) atleast now the restorstion can press on with piece of mind knowing it wont be a waste at the end if i hadnt got the logbook, I was well chuffed when it came, second irish owner on it so atleast its history is somewhat traceable. Came into the country in february 2003 and was taxed for 2 years and parked in a field, so its new leace of life starts with me and hopefully itll have many more years of fun and craic on irish soil
