I'm trying to take the needle roller bearing off the mainshaft of the gearbox and it doesn't seem to want to come as the cage is plastic I am a bit hesitant to use a puller on it any ideas?

Normally it just slides out. If its damaged or your just replacing it it doesn,t matter how it comes out. If its not damaged just leave it in.

This is the smaller bearing at the end of the shaft I can't undo the smaller nut till its off I don't mind breaking it its not expensive to replace but don't want to damage anything

You can pry out rollers one by one and remove the cage then use a puller on the metal part to remove it.

I think you mean the first motion shaft bearing, I was thinking the one between first motion and main shaft. If I remember right I used two flat screwdrivers as its too narrow for a bearing puller.

memory comming back slowly ( getting old ) ,two claw hammers . One each side and pull evenly, careful not to chip a tooth on the gear.
