project "red devil"

Post by joeyfinneran »

right iv had this project a while now but never started at thread so i said since iv the engine got its full steam a head :D

right lets start, i wanted a project to learn more about minis and the way they work (did he both mini hanyes books but you'll learn nothing out of a book!). so i looked on here but nothing was happening so looked on donedeal and seen red devil in dublin so i rang and asked all the questioned and needed and went to look at it as mam was shopping  better than sitting on a bench in liffey vally. looked and the car and i was amazed with it, one rust spot yes i mean one but there was a catch had no engine but that didn't bother me, a perfect shell is hard to find now a days. while still in school got dad to drive up during the week and get it, that was one long day at school
when i got it home gave it a good look over and seen a few dents on the roof from being in 10-15 years dry storage :P so have them filled in and also filled in the holes for the bonnet badge plan on getting a transformers sticker for there :)
anyway pictures are more interesting ........

day i got it :
Image

trial fit of grille arches and mirrors, windows also out for headlining. ( by the way does anyone have one ??)
Image

donor engine (thanks joe) ready to come out:
Image

liftng set up i had and used worked grand :)
Image

dodgy repair on the exhaust when taken out :
Image

engine out and ready to clean(have her well trained:lol:) had her do that while i put the car back out its wheels
Image

Image

was amazed how well the engine cleaned up  but it won't be staying yellow and sliver, will be having it red and black just like the outside Colour scheme.
any advice and thoughts are welcome :)
more will follow as the project goes thanks for reading this far

I was going to say its a nice winter project but knowing you, you'll have on the road in no time :) and your dead right only way to learn how a mini works is to get stuck in.
If it isn’t broke then it’s not a Mini

Red/black colour scheme is always a winner and 10" revo's will look perfect on it. Are you going with a black center on the revo's?

theres a sleeve that connects the rod to the gearbox and yup, you can use brake fluid for the clutch. i usually start with the rear passenger side, rear drivers side, front passenger and front drivers, dont know why but i think i remember reading that you start with the furthest away from the master cylinder....could be wrong but it's not let me down!!

Update on this too!

Plans have changed on the colour scheme of this car. In the last 6 months too many red/black mini have popped up. So I'm going with something i haven't seen in any IMM photo albums iv looked at or most of TMF.

Also i have put RC40 on blue mini so I'm making a de-cat pipe from my old exhaust and putting it on this car. I was thinking of putting a huge back box on it from a jap car something like 5-6 inch but im thinking of lowering so that wont be practical.

Update will fallow soon as im getting frustrated at looking at this car doing nothing

A while ago we got a room re-carpeted in the house and i took the left over and used it in this car.
I think its totally different from the crowd exactly what im looking for with this car.

Image

I also reused my old rust/scratched bumpers off the blue mini and wrapped them in sticker bomb :)
Sticker bomb is really a love or hate thing. Im one of the few that think its class 8) an in the end its my car
Image

Also have some other funky odd ideas for this car and cant wait to properly tackle into it :)
