Hi guys

I've got a mini with an 88deg thermostat fitted which when left ideling for 15mins or so will creep very close to the "H" on the temp gauge.
The ignition timing is set to 10deg btdc and the fueling seems to be spot on.
The rad cap is a 13lbs one and the heater matrix has just been replaced as the old one was rotten.
The radiator is the standard radiator which has been flushed when out of the car.
The heater control valve has also been replaced as the old one was leaking.

The heater itself blows cold air no matter how hot the engine gets with the valve open. The pipes going into/out of the matrix remain cold/lukewarm but never get hot.

Im all out of ideas so any help would be appreciated to get the engine temp down and the heater blowing hot air.

This is a very long shot, but I was having a very similar over heating issue. I found a puncture in the bypass hose and when I replaced it, the temperature went normal.

The only hoses that haven't been changed are the bottom and top hose. The hoses going into and out of the matrix were replaced with the matrix. I have been wrecking my head all day and can't find the problem.
I had thought of a 82 deg thermostat but couldnt see this helping either problem

The first thing u need to determin is the system over heating ( iepressure in the system ) or do u have a faulty temp
sender or gauge ( is gauge standard or smiths acessory )

The guage is the standard smiths guage in the 3 clock centre dash with the C N H markings on it. When at idle the needle sits just over 3/4 way towards H

A bit of history may help here, is this a car that was running ok and this has just started to happen or is it a new build or has something being modified? You need to determine is the engine actually overheating or are you getting a false reading? If the system is not leaking changing hoses won't make any differance. If the engine is overheating but the heater is not heating it would sujest to me that the impeller on the waterpump may be corroded away.
