Back when I had the vintage wedding car business, I had access to the test floor as there were certain exemptions for cars pre-1980 being tested. Those lifts are nifty and everything can be controlled with a remote on the top of the tester's torch.

Congrats on the car passing, John :)

I had similar happen last year with my '92 Mini when they couldn't figure out how to open the (external release) bonnet.
It wasn't funny when I discovered the damage that was done (to my brand new bonnet) as a result of one of the 'technicians' prising it open :(

I'll be making sure that I explain the intricate workings of a Mini to the NCT staff this year!

My Dad had a similar experience the last time he took my 1980 Mini 1000 for an NCT.
They still couldn't find anything underneath to fail it on.
Must tell him to bring his camera next time.
