How much paint do I need??

Can anyone give me an idea of how much paint i will need for a full respray on my '84 Mayfair. Primer, base and clear coat.

depends on wat Colour your doin it,,,,,,,
usually u get like 1 and a half litres of paint
tin of thinners and hardner
base primer wud be bout a litre to get a good cover on it and laquer the same
but a mini is tiny so i cant really say,,,,,,ask armo hes a spray painter

Ok I'm gonna paint her Red, white roof and bonnet stripes.

She needs primed and painted inside and out.

Spoke to a guy today in Autopaint in Newry he told me I would need

4 lts Primer
3 lts Base
1 ltr Laquer

He was quoting me 215 stg all in which includes masking tape, paper and flatting paper.

seems like a fair price but that's alot of paint for my wee mini I thought.

yes yes dats alot of money,,,, how much are you looking to spend on a respray,,,does car need any work to the body

the amount of paint you need will depend on how many coats you are going to put on it,a litre should be plenty for the roof and i would think 3 litres of the red and 1 laquer should be plenty,i will be doing one within the next couple of weeks or so plan on putting 2 good coats of white then leaving it for a week or so flattening it then 2 more coats an 2/3 coats of laquer

I reckon it's gonna cost me approx €400. Obviously I'd love to do it for less but thats seems to be the price of a nice finish.

Yeah I'm gonna do it myself. Have painted before, not a whole car but I have done some.

that price seems fairly good
you can do it in 2k so there is no need for clear coat
3ltr of paint is more than enuf
youl never use 4ltrs of primer you can buy a 2.5 ltr primer kit for around 60 euro and youl have plenty left
half ltr of paint is enuf for the roof ....i get 1 ltr of pure gloss white for 30euro from the locol motor factors

iv painted my mini 5 times every time different Colour

base and clear youl need 2ltrs bace and 1.5 clear

2.5 primer kit is well enough as Armo said . Paint will depend on the finish you want , I go 1 litre for the roof (wont use it all) and 2 or so for the rest of the body , but thats just me . If the primer is flat (use a guide coat) then you dont need a mountain of paint on top of it to get a nice finish . You can put as much paint on as you like but whats the point .

Cheers lads. All good advice. Yeah I thought 4 litres of primer was alot. I'm gonna go with the 2k and forget abt the clear coat. She's not to far away from paint now. One last thing. I know most will say that you have to have an air fed mask for painting 2k but can anyone suggest a reasonably priced mask that will work instead.

I used to do the same but i pay for it now,

Best advice is to always wear a good mask while spraying
