New Cork, Crosshaven member

Post by flynny-8 »

Well the names Darragh im 22 and living in crosshaven in cork, i was introduced to the site by a Mr Eamonn Murphy from the site here over the summer who i met by chance one day after coming out of work. There had been a spin up as far as camden fort the same day. Anyway when i spotted the eight or nine mini's lined up at the bus stop in the village it gave me the inspiration to hopefully get my own back on the road.

i bought a 1986 austin mini mayfair about two years ago up in dublin off a fella by the name of Micheal Arthurs pretty much on a whim because i had always loved the look of them with the plan to get my hands dirty and get stuck in but once things started going wrong i got turned off and for a year now its been sitting in the garage.

Thanks to some contacts from my sister who knew the Whyte brothers, Joe made contact with me and they decided to come down south for a bit of "jazz" the bank holiday weekend and take a look at the car. I think the two days Colin, Joe and Jason were down every member on the site must have been contacted to try get this mini up and running so i just wanna say a big thanks to all of you for your help.

Anyway this is probably one of the longest intro's ever written on the site so ill leave it at that, i cant wait to meet some more of you at future runs and hopefully become more mechanically minded by the end of it.

Cheers Darragh

Darragh,

Welcome to the forum. Joe rang me over the Jazz weekend looking for a head gasket. Did you get sorted?

We got a guided tour of Fort Camden as I deal with Paul Brierley through work.

Give me a shout if you want to talk Minis.

Wow guys thanks for all the welcomes  unfortunately im flat out with college work at the moment so appologies for the late replies,

@Billy i was given a head gasket set with the car thank god so we fitted that because there was water rising up one of the headbolts so it sorted that problem but from there the water in the rad when into the gearbox and sump so the lads diagnosed it as being a crack somewhere in the engine. fortunately Joe was saying he has a one litre engine back home so i think were planning on fitting it at some stage.
i would love to give you a call some evening but it wont be for another week i reckon with all my projects at the moment. thank you

@purplehaze without a doubt there seems to be a great bunch of people here, i have been on a few forums before but would have never even got the same response from people only on saying hello, looking forward to meeting plenty of ye.

@mmurfee haha he certainly does, i hope it was all good things apart from it giving him a headache for two days.

@kerryminigringo never would i have thought anybody would have cared so much to drive 3 or 4 hours just to take a look at it and try get it back on the road, i was gob smacked. a great bunch of lads himself and his brothers.
