Recon/New Alternators
Hey Guys
Just wondering if anybody could point me in the direction of a new/recon alternator for a 1ltr mini.
Have been quoted 100 for supply and fit, that about the going rate?
Any help appreciated.

Here is a brand new alternator with pulley from Mini Spares,

£42.58 if you factor in £10 postage it still only works out at €75-€80. They are easy enough to fit, you should be able to swap them over yourself in about 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour, and thats allowing for a tea brake.

Not sure where yopu're located but there are a good few Mini service people in Ireland. Ray Cunningham, Galway Mini Centre or Ger O'Leary, Cork, are two that come to mind. Or you could purchase an uprated alternator from Mini Sport, or Mini Spares, etc. I recently had my alternator rebuilt for €45. I removed it and refitted it myself so there was no additional cost. The man who repaired it told me when I collected it that I could have bought an uprated new one (45 Amp) for €50-€60. If I'd known that before, I would have gone that route. I have no garage so I did the removal and refit in my driveway. It's not difficult. You just need a good selection of spanners/sockets and something to pry the alternator to snug the drive belt. Good idea to replace the belt with a new one when you're doing the alternator.
