Fuelling issue ?

Car: 1996 Mini Sidewalk Spi
The other day I let the petrol tank run fairly low ( enough to make the car chug a little ) I went to the nearest petrol station and filled up , but the car was still dying and cutting out. This happened intermittently over the next week or so. Its gotten slightly better with each day. The only other thing I noticed was that the revs are higher at idle than normal ( like the choke was on constantly ) and the car often picks up a little when I release the accelerator.
i am assuming I have dirt from the bottom of the tank partly blocking the fuel system somewhere ( pump, filter or injector ) Does this sound right or is it a problem with electrics/ECU ....?

Prity Problem with SPI Goose,
you have in fact two problems one is as you suspect a dirty or blocking injector,
and the second is your idle steeper motor has gone out side limits. It does this to try keep the engine ruining as it runs out of petrol or when it misfires from the dirty injector. Its a simple fix you just need to bring it to someone who can clean the injector and reset the stepper motor.

You didn't happen to fill up at the Topaz on the Tipperary road (The OLD Pat Keogh's) Goose ?????
Apparently one of the underground tanks let some water in during last Sunday's heavy rain.
Also, if you need any SPi bits give me a shout....I converted one to carb and have most of the SPi related bits here somewhere.

@ MGB
No....I filled up in Topaz in Thomondgate....usually go to EMO on Clare street though. Cheers.....will drop you a pm if I need anything.
@Merlin
If I had a partial blockage in the injector , could it cause the stepper motor to kick in anyway ? Since it doesnt always rev higher and only does it after I lose power ( lack of fuel ) I assume the stepper motor is working fine and doing its job ?? Correct me if I am wrong

Your Spot on Goose,
The stepper motor is trying to keep the motor alive when the fuel stops flowing properly through the injector, it is most likely reading an out side limits Fault in the ECU though which will need to be cleared.
Your would be as well off getting the injector flushed and the same for the fuel system, not to big a job and should sort all your problems.
rgds,
Paul.
