mini keeps cutting out
Im just after getting a second mini a 1990 mini studio 2 998cc .
Heres the story when im driving along the road the car will stop going, it still revs when you press the accelerator but will go nowhere. When i pull in it will cut out and will keep cutting out as i try to take off.
I put in a different fuel pump but it didnt make much of a difference. I was told it might be the coil but the car shouldnt be able to start at all if it was the coil or would it ?
Please Would anyone be able to tell me what would be causing the car to stop running when im driving.
Thank you

When you say the car stops going i assumn you mean the engine is still running but there is no power in it. This sounds like a fuel problem alright and is proberbly at the carb.Fuel starvation can be caused by a dirty in line fuel filter if fitted (not standarded) or dirt in the float chamber on the side of the carb. Alternitivly dirt in the piston chamber can cause the needle to stick open and have a similer effect.
best of luck.
best of luck.
Thanks for the replies
I dropped the car down to a local mini mechanic on Friday because i was getting nowhere .I changed the fuelpump ,coil and cleaned out the carburator and it got me nowhere. The mechanic put a new condenser into it and blew back the fuel pipes to get rid of any dirt and it went perfectly
but things went from bad to worse today and now the car wont even start..After i left it for a while it started but when i tried to start it agin later it wouldnt startI know its not the battery cause i tried it with jump leads and it made no difference.I think its probably the starter motor or yhe points but i am open to corrections would anyone have an idea what would be causing this as i dont have a clue.
Please any ideas appreciated as im going out of my mind
nannyc :ill try to check them tomorrow as the car dosent seem to have as much power as it should and ill do anything now to try to get it going

k what mine was doin was exactly like yours, it just kept loosing power and cutting out, when it was turned off starting it again was pure luck, after a few trys it'd go but it was dodgy after replacing all the things we could think of it turned out to be the smallest thing.... the points, its worth a shot!!! good luck with it
if the engine turns over its not the starter. sounds like an ignition problem to me as nannyc said check your points and if they are good check the gap, also check the condition of your dizzy, rotor arm, plugs and leads. has your car been out in the rain????????? if so possible damp in your dizzy would cause it to run like poo
