Southern Region Run - Sunday September 18th - Fort Camden

Following from the success of this month's Picnic Run to the sea and the tour of Barryscourt Castle, we have another similar run organised for Sunday September 18th.
The plan is to go for a run along the coast of Cork Harbour on the western side and end up at Fort Camden, Crosshaven for a guided tour. I got a tour myself yesterday and 70% of the fort is underground which is incredible. If there is sufficient interest, we will get a tour of areas of the Fort not yet open to the public.
All welcome. Bring the family, pack a picnic, talk Minis.

I have added some photos I took for work on the facebook page below. These are only the tip of the iceberg as 70% of the Fort is underground. You'll spot a certain red Mini in one of the photos:

Thanks to everyone who turned up on last Sunday's run.
Michael O'Leary and his 3-legged dog led the posse from the Topaz at the airport roundabout down backroads through Ballygarvan and on to Carrigaline and Crosshaven.
The tour of Fort Camden went down a treat and we intend to return next year when more of the fort is made accessible to the public. The Jaguar Club had cars on display there and there was a cannon fired while we were there. The Fort could have possible uses for the IMOC in the future.
For the second month in a row, the Southern Region had a picnic which proved popular as everyone brought their own sandwiches and flasks. Definitely the way to go for other regions if members are watching the pennies, especially if you bring the family.
Once all the sambos were demolished, Brendan Kerrigan brought us via Fountainstown beach through Nohoval, Ballinaclashet, and Belgooly to Riverstick where the obligatory 99s were purchased and consumed. Dick Mason was able to listen to the All-Ireland on Eamospud's portable radio outside the shop. The radio worked perfectly but the result didn't work out as well.
Dick has kindly offered to run our next SR monthly event in Kerry. We will meet at the Topaz, Killarney at 11am on Sunday October 23rd.
Eamospud will be along shortly with photos.
