Sump guard

Post by StanO'Toole »

Picked up a sump guard today and was just wondering what way its fitted? I was flicking through Google images and most of them come up in front out the front valence i.e.....

Image

When I put the guard up the best fitting looked like you bolt the front of it to the front of the subframe? i.e.....

Image

Which is the proper/better way? I think the first pictures looks cool but the second looks like it will protect the sump more...

Various designs and manufacturers of sump guards stan. The second picture looks like the way it should go. you will probably find that it will really only fit one way.
Now all you need is a rally-cross stage to test it

The guard in the first picture is the RAC Dural sump guard and has a very heavy mounting bracket going up behind the valance to the subframe, the second is classified as a show guard, but does still protect the sump from a bit of battering... (Its the same as the ones Hammy and I have on our Minis)

The photo of the second one shows what looks like rubber mounts to keep the guard lower, there shouldn't be any need for this as most of these guards will JUST clear the sump when fitted directly to the subframe..

Hope this helps
