Rocky Drive!

Post by loxley »

Hi all,

I am wondering about the bearings in my diff, there seems to be alot of play...ie. i can rock the drive shaft coupler about a bit..... I persume this is bad news!, any ideas, thoughts, info on changing would be greatly appreciated, can i take the diff off with the motor in situ?....

in a very much related issue would a box from a mpi swap straight onto the spi??

Thanks in advance...

When you say you can rock the coupler about a bit, how exactly do you mean , in out, forward back, up down ?

Do they move independently or together ?

Are the drive shafts in or out ?

Any work on the diff itself will be an engine out job.

The drives are still connected, when i grab the coupler coming from the diff I can get up/down movement, which to me feels like the bearings are really worn... will the mpi box fit directly onto the spi engine?

Gearboxs are the same except for a different crown wheel and pinion ratio

If you had that much play the output shaft seal would be knackered and you would have lots of oil draining out of the box, I would say probably a worn inner CV joint
