Hi all,

I just dropped off my previously chrome rims to be powder coated and am now trying to source some tyres without breaking the bank, anyone know of a source for some 175 x 50 x 13's??

Thanks in advance.

Nice work...I couldn't find any for less than 80 thanks for that, good bye next weeks wages, any idea if 175 60's would fit or will I not have enough clearence?

The 60 is the aspect ratio or profile, which is the height of the tyre wall as a percentage of the tyres width.

175mm x .6= 105mm

175mm x .5= 87.5mm

a difference of 17.5mm

times that by 2, top and bottom , that's 35mm or 1.38 inches more in the diameter of the 60 profile tyre.

So unless you change the radius arms the answer is no. :(

if you have hi/lo's fitted you can higher them up to allow for the extra clearance.... i presume the 60's would improve the ride a bit.

The ride height isn't the problem, it's the distance between the axle and the pivot of the radius arm.

i measured my 13's with 50's on for clearance.... i have 25mm clearance both sides. so with the 17.5mm reduction with the bigger radius tyres that leaves 7.5mm clearance.... not all will be the same so measure 1st before, if you need a measurement from pivot to wheel centre clearance let me know.

but back to tyres, do your homework before choosing tyres.... some are called ditch finders for a reason so you realy get what you pay for... i personaly haven't used them ones sujested so cannot comment on them but maybe someone can??

the fulda are like driving on a sheet of glass... out of the tyres i had on my 13s, dunlops and fuldas were absolute dung compared to yokohama a539s, best all round tyre in my opinion! and are only a fraction more than the cheaper alternatives, although ya cant get them in ireland anymore since yokohama emigrated!

The standard tyres on the ERA's is 165 x60 x13 which in my opinion gives a slightly smoother ride. I use 175x 50 x13 Pirelli P7 and love them.

Thanks for the imput all,

Was going to order 175 50 13's from eiretyres but they didn't have any available and the nice lady on the phone didn't know when they would be available again, bavariatyres might me more appropriate a title as they are actually a German based distribution company!,

I have ordered some Dunlop Sp Sport 2000's instead from a local guy, I'm just a sucker for a tyre with white writing!...

Next step getting them fitted without scratching the powdercoating..,

I will post some pics soon in the Project section under the existing "Loxleys Spi Project"....
