jus wondering if any one would know what types of gasket sealer to use for these purposes? i hav ordinary blue gasket seal and grey tiget sealer. but dont know whether they would be suitable.
i am doing the water pump gasket
thermostat gasket which is the thick spongey type gasket
the oil filter gasket
and the output driveshaft cover gaskets too.

also for all these gasket is it a case of puting sealer onto the part then fit the gasket and then sealer onto whichever bit of the engine it is geting fited too? in other words do i hav sealer on either side of the gasket?

i was told something bout the oil gasket but cant remember wheter it was just to do one side or something bout making sure something lined up properly!!

all help needed!!!

I never use any gasket cement, I just use ordinary multipurpose grease, grease both sides of the gasket and torque to the required poundage. Works for either paper or cork gaskets.

really? interesting!! i was talking to some one and they were making a big fuss bout what sealer to use, telling me to use red indian or something indian?!!

the stuff they are talking about is "indian head" a gasket shellac compound you can use this on the joints but as marcos said a bit of grease and good smooth surfaces does the trick you will get indian head in your local motor factors if you want to use it

We use "red" sealant to bond the rocker gasket to the head.

Most other gaskets are smeared with Rhodoseal or similar, grease don't work in our experiance.

Gasket + Rhodoseal = no leak - for years.
