Brake servo install,

Post by danny »

Evening all.
quick question, that someone may be able to answer for me..
installing disks and servo into a 79 mini. (cooper s)

the servo i'm installing is the one from the later type mini's not the remote one..
my question is, well 2 questions really.

do i need to install proportional valve from the late mini with disk brakes or will the one in my car( all drum brakes) work.

also when installing servo and bracketry, do you need to swap you heater valve from the one on the side of the head to one that's in line line again on the later mini's, or can you just root heater pipe somehow through servo.

thanks in advance.

danny

Yes u will have to fit later bias valve, and position it closer to the inner wing, u will have to drill a new hole for the bolt. to do this take out the big subframe bolt, that way when u drill the hole u can get ur finger down to hold the nut in place,

U don t have to change the route of the heater hose at all, u will have to fit a new inlet manifold to be able to screw the pipe for vaccume pressure for the servo into, that s all

i can photos if ur stuck, or give me a shout

Thanks joe,
Much appreciated.. A photo may be helpful, thank you

this is what i currently have, what would be the affect if i screw the master cylineder and server directly into the circled outlets on the proportional valve. reason i ask is what's there looks very simular to whats on car i removed servo from.

Image

also do i need to do anything to this, can this be left alone or does a later one need to be fitted. as they are slightly differant.
well they look differant on the car i'm taking parts off ( 1990 mini).

Now that i think of it, the valve is related to the rear cyclinder size.

Use the same bias valve its the easiest option, I cant answer ya if it will fit round the clutch cyclinder, put in the servo and see,

I ll post some pics tomorrow evenin

i put in a brake servo and had exact same problem, it will be in the way there so my advice would be make up some new pipes and move the bias valve to somewhere out of the way like on the inner wing..

i put a servo into a '80 car.... *didnt* move the bias valve (it already had disks...!) and was a right nuisance to bolt up the bottom of 4 bolts holding the servo to the bracket.

i did make up 2 brake pipes after messing with the originals for ages... make sure you get the right thread type in the ends.

i didn't change the pedal box, just swapped in the break pedal for the servo set-up

the servo bracket fits fine beside the clutch. the water hose goes around and under the servo to the bulkhead.
i needed a transfer box breather from a later car as the old upright type fouls the master cylinder.

iv'e no photos to hand, but can get some on Sunday if you like.
