Sad News - Kieran O'Carroll RIP - Arrangements update

Post by zakgt »

Kieran O'Carroll passed away suddenly yesterday. Kieran was the eldest of the O'Carroll brothers, Colin, Woody, BlackSeven and myself and father of Simon (Webmaster). Kieran was the current vice-President of the club and was President in the past along with other various committee roles. He loved travelling the country and was probably the only Dub on many of the country runs over the years.

He will be greatly missed.

Arrangements

Kieran will be at rest in Cunningham's Funeral Home, Clonsilla, (beside the Petrol Station, up from the Clonsilla Inn) from Wednesday 8th December.

Removal from Cunningham's Funeral Home, Clonsilla (5.00pm) to St. Mochta's Church, Porterstown on Friday evening, arriving at 6pm. Funeral on Saturday, after 10am Mass, to Newlands Cross Crematorium. Family flowers only, please. Donations, if desired, to Temple St. Children's Hospital.

Newlands Cross Crematorium, is located down the first left, just passed the Fire Station on the Belgard Road coming from Newlands Cross (N7) junction.

Very sad news.

From my limited time knowing Kieran, he was always enthusiastic and willing to help.
IMOC has lost a dedicated friend and my thoughts are with all the O'Carrolls at this sad time.

If I can do anything at all to help, just give me a buzz.

On behalf of the club, we wish to extend our sympathies to Simon, Danielle, and Richard on the passing of their father and to Colin, Killian, Ronan, and Adrian on the loss of their big brother.

The O'Carroll family have always been very active in the club over the years at committee level, participating at runs and IMMs, and spreading the good name of the club around the country and abroad.

Kieran will be best remembered in recent years for his volunteering to bring the club gazebo and banners around the country to shows as far apart as Terenure and Charleville. It was he who produced the excellent photo collages and mini models which were displayed in the gazebo and which were always commented on at each show.

He was never shy at getting involved and at one stage held three committee positions at the same time.

The club has lost a valued member and friend.

May he rest in peace.

Kieran on the right with his camera, taken 17th March 2009. He had travelled down to Mallow, Co. Cork to support the club at the St. Patrick's Day Parade. He came back to Mallow again in 2010 but left early that day as he hadn't been feeling well.

If anyone has any other photos of Kieran they would like to share, feel free to post them.

This news both shocked and saddened me last night when i got the call. He was a true gentleman who always made time for a cup of tea and a chat. I remember him and simon poppin in to collect some parts and we spent hours around the kitchen table chatting. He will be sadly missed by a lot of people as i'm sure a large crowd at the funeral will testify to.

Anyone who was at the MTM this year Kieran was the one who sorted the model cars at the finishers meeting, He has the largest collection of model minis i have ever seen.

Our thoughts an prayers are with all the family during this very difficult time.

Our deepest condolences to all the O'Carroll clan. We were completely blindsided by the news last night. Kieran was an absolute gent and a lovely sociable man who will be missed by a huge number of people.

I heard the sad news of Kieran's death yesterday and would like to extend my sympathy to Simon, Danielle, Richard, Colin, Killian, Ro and Adrian and to Kieran's extended family.

The IMOC has lost a committed, hardworking and enthusiastic member of our club. I first got to know Kieran properly after the IMM in Bandon in 1997. Kieran got involved with the every day running of the club as our Newsletter Editor. I remember many an evening in Artane when myself, Adrian and Kieran would trash out stuff for the club mag. Kieran refereeing as A and I got into another fight. Kieran's contribution with the magazine and especially his love of photography was evident for all to see and greatly enhanced the quality of what we issued. Sometimes A and I would have to reign him in a bit as he would be including some fantastic scenic shots that he would take on a run but he would be missing a Mini or two to give credence to his article. We always got great descriptions of the food and Kieran was an authority on where the best Pavlova was to be found in any part of Ireland.

In 2002 as well as continuing as Newsletter Editor Kieran became Vice President. This was followed in 2003 and 2004 when he was appointed President of the IMOC. It was a role he was very proud of and he considered it a great honour to have been selected. He served the members well by travelling the length and breadth of the country attending as many club events as possible. One of his funniest stories, that he enjoyed telling, was on the MTM when the Mayor of Derry came along to the prize giving ceremony and Kieran was envious of her chain of office. It didn't take long till an IMOC chain of office was quickly fashioned featuring a set of spark plugs and other pieces of mini paraphernalia. Kieran got a great laugh out of this and wore it proudly.

My last involvement with IMOC stuff was the 20th anniversary publication and again Kieran gave generously of his time, helping me source lots of photographs from his many trips. He also took our copy of the "50" tribute and had spent a while photoshopping out the two portaloos in the Centre. He called to our house with the final draft to find Ro O'Carroll and myself busily proofing the copy. He offered to help and took some of the pages, suddenly something he was reading sent him into fits of giggles, he tried to explain it to us but we just didn't get it. We told him to fix what was wrong and get on with it, but every so often he'd lapse into giggles again eventually setting Ro and I off, even tho we hadn't a clue what we were laughing about.

His contribution to our fundraising efforts are also worthy of note, anything that the IMOC did for charity Kieran was always at its forefront, one of his last venture, that I am aware of, was commissioning a set of IMOC models for the 20th anniversary, proceeds of which went to Temple St Hospital.

On a personal level, I always found Kieran to be a warm, kind and generous human being, a proper gentleman, I never ever heard him say anything bad about anyone. I was honoured that he considered me an "Honorary" sister in law and along with Adrienne, Helen, Deirdre and Cathy, allowed us to raid his stash of Mini models when christmas and birthdays came around for the lads.

Kieran, my dear friend, I hope you have found some peace, you will be greatly missed.

Jocelyn.

The attached photo shows Kieran with Marc Stretton of Mini Mag on MTM 2004. It was a photo that Kieran was very proud of.

I was very sad to hear this last night, i had got to know Kieran well over the past year, each time i met him at a show or a committee meeting he would always have a great tale to tell of past club events years ago & mini stories. He will be very sadly missed by the IMOC Community.

RIP Kieran,

My condolences to the O'Carroll family. Only met Kieran briefly a couple of times, unfortunately I never got the chance to have a proper conversation with him. But having talked to Simon and others i have heard how involved the O'Carroll family are with the club and and its fairly obvious Kieran will be sadly missed.

I was so deeply saddened to hear this news today, my deepest sympathies to the O'Carroll family,
I met Kieran in HP where he worked before i knew he was anything to do with minis,
he was always good to have a chat with and we'd often spend a few hours just chatting, the theme always returned to minis though,
he even presented me with a matchbox model of a mini van out of the blue!
a true gent if ever their was, he will be missed

RIP Kieran O'Carroll

Met Kieran once at the St. Patricks day parade in Mallow and his smile and his humour on the day really stood out for me and he made a great impression. Condolences to the O'Carroll family. No doubting Kieran will be missed by all.
And I said, Officer, I didn't want to be drunk in public...I wanna be drunk in the bar. Now last time I checked it was still legal to be drunk in the bar. They threw me into public...arrest them!
