I have a problem with the GT in that it starts hunting at around 1500/2500 revs. After a lot of head scratching I tracked it down to a faulty throttle position sensor.By disconnecting the sensor it will rev but there is a delay while the ECU compensates for the loss of TPS.I will order a new one but in the meantime I drove the GT out of the garage for the first time under 16v power.

I still have a list of jobs to finish but it is getting smaller everyday. One of the jobs was to put the new wheels on,these have been in the attic for a long time waiting to go on the GT complete with A032 rubber. They are MB 3 piece split rims 10x5.5

And a new wheel for the inside, this is a Motolita leather rim the same as the John Cooper one but without the John Cooper script.I need to get a different wheel centre but I am not sure which one to get.

Absolutely LOVE the split rims Aidan. They finish it off beautifully.

On the wheel centre, how about a black centre with... giz a sec

rally quickly done, but how about a little raised vinyl badge in black similar to the boot badge.
(or even the boot badge logo on its own, small in the middle)
or an embossed one out of metal if your feeling extra blingy...

Hi there im doing this conversion myself.. I have a 1395cc tuned gti engine buy have not got a gear box as of yet. Do you know if a 1ltr or 1.3l will fit or suit with gear ratios. I will be running 12in wheels by the way. I can get a gti box but its bout 3 times the price of the others.

Sorry if I dragged up a thread from the dead. Iv read this bout 5 times front to back and seemed like a logical place to get a reply. I probably will u have a few more questions if thats ok.

thanks in advance

You would be better off getting a 1.3 GLS gearbox as the 1 lt does not fit straight on.The GLS gearbox has better ratios than the GTi which is a close ratio box and is more suited to the Mini. The GTi box has stronger internals but from talking to guys on the 16v Mini Forum the GLS box is more than capable from the lighter Mini.Scroll down through this link and you will see the difference in the 1lt box and the 1.3

Thats great thanks.. I can get a 1.3 for 110e so thats a few pound saved. Are you running a hydraulic clutch on your conversion? Is there any pitfalls I should be aware of? Thanks for your quick reply.

I am using a hydro clutch with a Mini slave cylinder. I would recommend shortening the inlet manifold by 27mm and putting a slight cant in the engine to avoid cutting the bulkhead otherwise that would mean not being able to use the Mini brake and clutch master cylinders and that was the single biggest headache I had with mine. Also put a lot of thought into the alternator bracket as it is an on going issue with mine and vibration.. Get onto http://www.16vminiclub.com/ and browse some of the on going projects for ideas.I will be starting another build thread in the next couple of weeks when I start work on my Clubman Estate and put the lessons I learned from the first one into the next.Where are you sourcing the GLS gearbox as I found it hard enough to get one.

The engine is running gxr throttle bodies so I think il be ok with bulkhead clearence.
My local scrap man had one, well he said its from a 1300 swift , am I right in assuming its a glx? What are you doing for a subframe on the estate? Im going to try tackle one my self.

I bought a subframe from a guy in Sweden but this time I will be making my own. Not sure about the GLX but if it is from a 1300 it should fit.I will be starting a build thread in the next couple of weeks.
