Mini Neon

Post by jebus »

evening lads/ladies,

I am currently in the process of getting the ownership of a 1991 mini neon changed into my name.
the car is completely banjaxed, needs a complete overhall. i'm getting the car for free and i am taking it on as a project (never had a project before)

I have 2 questions,

is there anything I should know about this car?

what is the forums opinion on this car?

Hope you are good a bodywork :(

Fear not though , worse cars have been saved.

Have a look through the rest of the project section to see what others have achieved .

You've done the right thing to start with by joining the forum, you'll find plenty of people only too willing to offer help and advise along the way.

A fully carbon fiber Mini Marcos shell weighs just 7.25kg.

I know NOTHING about cars. i was planning to wing this one pretty much, i know it will cost a fortune but that doesnt bother me, people in 50 years will want a mini. one of the most iconic cars out there.

is the neon model any use though?

Cant :(

for 3 years all i've heard out of the missus is, "i'd love that car." "jesus, that car would look great in red and black"

so, i'm gonna do the project on the car and the missus will drive it :(

Welcome to the Forum.

The Neon was one of many special editions, but not sure what features were specific to it. It looks like a good starting point though for a project.

For some reason it looks familiar, the strange body stripes ring a bell

may i add my welcome too!

rust is the killer, as all will agree! sills, doors, boot, floor, a-panels (behind front wheelarch) under windscreen and rear screen, round the headlights too. probably best to strip it and take *all* the interior out, get a good look at the car.

label everything, specially wiring! take photos as you go so you know what to aim at on way back!

im useless at bodywork & dont weld but anything i know is your for the asking.
