Picked him up today from cork and drove flawless all the way to limerick.
1979 old cork reg. Happy out and the g/f loved her presant.
just a few bits a pieces that need tidying.
I'm not gone on the colour but it may grow on my.

future plans:
number one priority as my G/f main car is to convert to disk brakes
better handeling ( currently loose at back.)
update the interior a bit. new carpets, headlining, maybe a dash, bit of sound deading. etc...
needs new heater, so going to keep eye out for newer 2 speed one.
install radio.
and maybe install heated front window.
on and better lights and fogs on the front.

for a while that will do..
shes's taxed till next may and will be insured from tomorrow.
it will not be on any major trips till disk brake upgrade.. ( so if anyone has a kit, let me know.)

Hi Danny,
just a small thing ,but if you get the newer heater make sure you get the air pipes that go up to the windscreen with it (the newer ones are a bit bigger). Also get at least a foot of the water pipe as well (bigger diameter but if you have enough to fit the heater you can get reducers to join onto the existing pipes).
Also while the old heater has one water pipe on each side the newer one has both pipes on the left but that's not a problem.

If you are changing to discs you will have to go to the Cooper S set-up, 7 1/2 inch, to retain the 10 inch wheels or use the 8.4 inch set-up from the later Minis and switch to 12" wheels, which every one you use, you will also have to use the wider rear break drums and longer wheel studs .


My first Mini was the same colour as yours and it does grow on you.

It looks like you got a fine little Mini there, my only suggestion would be that you loose the headlamp peaks, personally I think they are gank.

Yea the peaks never worked for me I love that brown ,russet brown I think its called . Nice motor , good luck with it

don't know to be honest if this was at mondello recently, the previous owner used if for alot of shows so maybe he had it there

It could have been Liams 850cc yous reconise.

Did you pick that up from near Fermoy from guy by the man of John (or maybe it was Sean) who had two other Mini's a green one and a white one? I looked at a car that colour for a friend of mine over a year ago, it was in pretty good nick, recently resprayed to a good standard in fairness, but when the sills had been replaced they didn't bother repairing the rotten jacking points and welding them onto the new sills to do the job right, just welded the new sills on over the rust. When you look up the jacking point hole its not pretty. This, together with the colour which reminded him of something rather different than chocolate, turned him off the car and he bought a '89 Racing Green instead. I can't rememder what the reg no was so don't know if its the same car or not. It ran sweetly though. Also needed a steering rack gaiter or two if I remember correctly.

@pn951 : yep that's the one. yea i noticed the jack points alright but couldn't pass up car for the price i got it for.
going to drive it around for a while than full rebuild and Colour change next year...

British poo brown is a better description of the colour they put it on a lot of 70's and 80's British cars. Looks mint other then that I've heard of some Japanese companies made disc brakes for minis no clue who or how much they cost though

Just take off extras and leave it as it is.Its looks clean enough as is.
If you want to do some work get a rough one and work on that.
