recently i have been having issues when i come to slow down at the lights etc my car sometimes not all the time cuts outs and after a few times a nightmare getting it going again..just there i just turn on the engine didnt apply pressure and the hand of the dial seems to be hopping about till i reved it came down and stopped again any idea how i can solve this?!?

Is it running on carbs? If so, have you topped up the oil in the dashpot lately?
Also check if the accelerator cable is snagging somewhere but I'd check the dashpot first.

If it's an injection model it could be the vacuum pipes from the inlet manifold to the fuel trap / fuel trap to ECU: they have a habit of wearing out
