Petrol Gauge not working

I've a 91 Mini City. And, as the title says, my petrol gauge is not working. Any ideas on how to get it working?

The sender in the petrol tank might not be working.
Someone will be able to suggest a way of testing it

Firstly check the connections on the petrol tank sender unit in the boot.

They are a simple slide fit, so can get knocked off sometimes.
