Quick Q - Wiring new spot lamps...
Just bought new spots for my mpi. It's a cooper, but specifically a Mini John Cooper LE. Anyway, they have 2 spots as standard. With regards putting on the new spots, from what I can tell I would need to cut the cable and wire it to the new one. Is it as simple as cutting the existing cable, and then connecting the new wire from the spot to that (how would one do this - i.e. should I use something to crimp them together?). Or should someone like me get a professional to do it?

Re: Quick Q - Wiring new spot lamps...
assuming that you are using only standard 55w bulbs in the new spots, and assuming that u want the new spots to come on at the same time as the existing spots, there is a crimp connector that can be used to join new wiring to existing wires, without cutting the existing wiring... talk to your local motor factor, she would have the right parts
don't forget that you will probably need to do two wires to each lamp, (supply and earth) and make sure you check which is which!
another way of doing it would be to feed the extra spot from a relay... not complicated just a little more involved.

ideally you'd want one set for fog lights and they other set as high beams would ya?

Re: Quick Q - Wiring new spot lamps...
keith, Buddy - thanx for the replies.
@Buddy - on the LE MPI there is only 2 spots, for high beams:

So basically all I'm looking to do is remove those two and put on these:

That's it, just a straight swap. The wires running into the spot lamps are thick black insulated but seem to be 'hardwired' into the lamp (i.e. it looks to me I'll have to cut the cable). On the spots I bought there is just a small single wire running out of them.
So: I thought that I would have to cut the existing cable at a point close to the spot, somehow connect that cable to the new one from the new spot, and that's it? I don't know if that's safe to do and don't want to cut the cable and then be told I've fupped up! Likewise, I'm not sure how to crimp the cables to make sure there's no connection issues etc. (as a side point @keith - when/if I cut the spot lamp wire would I find there's 2 wires within - one for supply and earth? If so and there's only one wire coming out of the new spot..... how do I know what's to be connected? If you know what I mean!).
I realise the above may be a very stoopid question - I'm a bit mechanically challenged shall we say

ok... so follow the existing cable back from the lights you *will* find a connector someplace behind the grille. unplug the lights there. remove the cable and the spots.
now you have an option: either get new wires (2 per lamp, diff colours) and crimp them to the wires in the car and run them to the spots *or* measure and snip the wires at the old spots and use them.
remember to use the coloured wire to the wire on the spot, the black wire goes to the body of the spot. thats the negative side.
