Nice read.
Why are you changing the gearbox, just change the CV's.

Got new drives with the car and apparently (according to that peter chap) it'll be a tight squeeze to fit that gearbox in, i might even have to do some chopping!
i'm open to correction on this.
Plan on doing all the body work and interior first and then tackle the engine side of things so ive plenty of time to suss out whats the best options.ill be rebuilding the engine so to change the gearbox, if i have too, won't be a massive amount of work.
would i be right in assuming that the drives on the gearbox i have woudn't be on the newer gearboxes?

Have you a photo of the back of the gearbox and the drives ?
The 1300GT engine is the same as a Mini 1275 engine, they share a common gearbox too, the only thing that might be slightly different may be the gear ratio or the final drive .

ahhhhh photos!!!!!!!
i got the idea from a friend whose restoring an MGB GT and keeps a similar blog. Just nice to have it all in the one place and when its finished you can export/save it or copy it to another blog host site! Was never really into blogs/facebook/twitter etc. but now that i actually have a use for a blog i can kind of see the point.

Thats a remote gear change, you need the older style linkage, but it will fit without any body mods.

Thats good news! Looks like the gearbox is staying! I think i may have the gear linkage for it, long alu casting that bolt to the tunnel under the hole for the gear stick.

Have been flat out in work and karting most weekends for the past few weeks but i got a bit done over the weekend (well an hour Sunday night!) took out the rear sub frame and started stripping it. was planning on giving it a good clean and a few coats of hammerite, was wondering is there anything i should be doing now that is out and on the ground? Ive a set of hi los and a poly bush set to go into it which i plan on doing and i might strip the hubs and see what nice surprises are in there!
