Seeing as this will be our first time, just a couple of questions, that I hope you can answer,,,


Do we travel in groups of 4 or 5, or is it every man/women for his/her self

Do we get a map/route/run pack. or is it every man/women for his/her self

Is there a spares pack , in case we havent bought the right spare for the job

We have a CB, will others have one

Will there be an Itinerary ie: petrol stops,,

, loo stops or is it the nearest bush/tree

Every car leaves one after the other, normally cars brake up into groups so you won't be by your self

Do we get a map/route/run pack. or is it every man/women for his/her self
Yip you get root books. Normally there are two books, one at the start (you get this after you round the cone at the end of the road) and you get the second at the half way point. they use a system of tulip diagrams, coarse notes and mileage. the organisers will explain this to you the night before.

Is there a spares pack , in case we haven't bought the right spare for the job
there is no spare packs but they do provide a limited brake down service the convoy is followed be a defender and car trailer. but its a good idea to bring what spars you think are necessary: oil, water, head gaskets etc.

We have a CB, will others have one
A good few had them last year so i say they have them this year

Will there be an Itinerary IE: petrol stops, loo stops or is it the nearest bush/tree
Yes there are stops for petrol, loo etc but when you need to go...go:) and if you need more petrol pull over when you see one (like certain blue clubemans last year)

The Route Books are very easy to understand, you get a diagram of the junction layout, the direction you are coming from and the road you are heading for are all indicated. there will be a written description and instruction to accompany this as well as the mileage to the junction and the distance from the previous one.

The brake down service will get your car going if possible, or else trailer your car to a local garage if roadside repairs are impractical . Needless to say your Mini should be serviced prior to the event and be in a roadworthy condition.

There are food/rest stops incorporated into the route book, these are usually located close to petrol stations so refuelling is handy. The days journey from Mizen to Malin can vary between 400 and 440 miles depending on the route set by the organiseres . The average speed is about 40 miles an hour over all so you should be able to return about 30mpg unless you drive a blue Clubman that is, they seem to be a little less frugal.

Last year after the event petrol prices in Ireland went up by 2 cent due to a slight shortage caused by that clubman. But not only did it manage to complete most roads in record time but even more amazing it made Mickey or miniman speachless. Wow

The good news is your in the same mini so at least you won't lose each other . The cars are let off at the start one by one but groups wanting to travel at similar speeds tend to gather along the way.Over the years very few cars have not made it and they tended to be serious brakedowns or crashes.Minor bumps, electrical gremlins, head gaskets ,punctures and all the usual mini stuff have usually be sorted on the road.

Now Woody you know very well I asked/told him to meet me at Sainburys, how he missed the sign I will never know,,, lol,,,,,,, and I did make it home all on my own ... but i'm sure we will be ok,, we can always ask someone ,,if we get to lost , and I still have your phone number,,,, looking forward to seeing you and yours again,,,

My Mini was one of which did not make it last year. Poor old Studs gearbox just didn't want to last anymore

i was one of the ones that had a CB radio last year, great thing to have,
also i was in the mini on my own and didn't even bother looking at the route books, just went with a group and let someone else do the map reading

only problem i had was the top rad bracket broke on me the night before the start, but cable ties and duck tape are marvelous things

Just wondering about the tulip diagrams will the distances be given in miles or km for the mtm ???? thanks

IIRC it was miles.... *however* this is not a navigation rally, in fact its not a competitive event of any kind, just a drive in company with stops for breakfast, lunch, tea etc. the map is there to show you the way through the prettiest route and to make sure we all more or less keep together. stops for photo opportunities, notable landmarks, and mini-friendly establishments.

It's always been in miles. Apart from the Jap imports and the odd Swedish Mini that turns up, all other Minis use mph.

We all know that when we drive through a town or stop in a filling station (for Mick Glennon to fill up again.) the fact we are in a flock of minis we get lots of attention. However last year the car that seemed to get most of the attention was not the old mk1's or max'd out minis etc but a certain 2 lads who were dressed up as a Dog and a Donkey. It addd a bit of fun to the day.

So how about making it a bit of a fancy dress day too. We could even have a small prize for the best dressed. Could be a bit of a laugh.

Who fancies it? We coul get Paul Glennon to dress up as a bottle of Mustard again and maybe his passenger as a bottle of Ketchup. Ha ha haha.....

We could have Cop's And Robbers, Batman And Robbin, etc......I'm not giving you any ideas...

Hi Fellers... thanks to all who said about the Tesco vouchers,,, got mine today,,,,, I'm now ready to change them for ferry vouchers,,,,,,,, so now the next bit of advice I need is which ferry company should we book with , Stenna or Irish Ferrys both are the same price and both take the vouchers.... I have been told that the price may go down nearer the summer, but with stenna you have to book 4 weeks in advance. with Irish ferrys it's 2 weeks in advance. Stenna leaves from Fishguard, Irish Ferrys from Pembroke , which is not a problem for us .. Stenna also want a £10 booking fee. thanks again,,,
