Emission fail

Hi to all,
as mentioned in the "Seen a Mini" thread my Belle Blue failed the NCT because of the exhaust emissions.
The readings are
Temperature: 83 °C
Low Idle (900 rpm): CO 2.20 vol% - HC 0 ppm
Lambda: 1.049
High Idle (2810 rpm): CO 1.77 vol% - HC 163 ppm
A colleague of mine told me to use Dipetane to get around the prob. But as he has a Peugot (and he is French
) I do not really trust him. Just joking.
The tester said there could be something wrong with the catalysator.
Please help,
Tinkerbell
PS: I read the NCT Emissions thread, but I am not a technical person.
