Tool Set

Post by thewilleffect »

Hey Guys,

I was wondering if someone could help me. I have a mini shich is in need in repair. Due to having a bit of time on my hands these days I am looking to do a bit of work on the car. Could anyone recommend where I may be able to get tools suitable. eg. imperial sized sockets and spanners, etc.

Also could anyone give me any suggestions for the following. The car has been out of use for the past year. I can get it started but it will not got into gear. I know when it was in use over a year ago the clutch was starting to slip a bit. Any suggestions as to how I may rectiry or where I may start.

I have little mechanical experience in working on cars but am willing to learn.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks guys

Wilbur

Ebay is a good start, u might get a bit of a fright with some of the prices, but buy cheap buy twice. Clutch is very simple, if u have to pump the pedal a few times for it to go into gear, either slave cyclinder, orf master cyclinder, try the slave first its the easiest to work on. The arms on the bell housing sease after been left up after time, wd40 see if it ll free up, or take off the housing, a pain of a job. If the clutch has a long arm(verto or pre verto) cant remember which, there is adjustment, which could be the reason for it slipping or not going into gear.

Are you able to select gears with the engine stopped,do you have a hard clutch pedal or is it very soft,is the sign of fluid leak around the slave cyclinder. As Joe said the clutch arm can seize down at the bottom of the bell housing so lots of WD40 would help there.
Real Clubmans have a square nose.Seriously.

Have somebody press the clutch pedal and you watch to see if the arm moves. If the arm is moving the plate may be stuck to the flywheel due to oil(the slipping). Press the clutch in and start the engine in first.Should separate the two. Halfords are good for imperial tools, there own brand has liftime guarntee.
