Engine running very fast - and thirsty!!

Post by minima »

Hi All! MY mini is fitted with a 1.3 carb metro engine. When it warms up, after about 10 mins, it idles very fast and the revs dont drop very much during gear changes. I have tried adjusting the idling screw to no avail, the choke is fully in and as far as I can tell the throttle isnt sticking. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Eric

if the idling screw doesnt work at all ie. revs dont drop, it could be that the accelarator cable is too tight on the carb, so loosen that up and unscrew your idle to lower the revs. let the accelerator thingy ( :? ) rest on the idle screw and retighten accelarator cable... <---- if that makes any sense?? :?:

The breather hoses run from various parts of the engine to the side of the carb. If they are broken or lose the carb sucks in more air when the throtel is closed causing a faster idel. There may be two breathers on your engine, one on the timing cover and one on the clutch housing.
