Failed NCT - Wiper linkage

The Se7en failed the NCT during the week. An Oil leak and Wiper Linkage and both sides. Has anyone else been failed on this. I've never known a Mini linkage that didn't have a bit of movement.
Any ideas or is it off to buy a new linkage and spindles?

It's the way they test them, most modern wiper systems use a solid linkage with cup and ball joints, the test is to hold one wiper and see if the other wiper moves, if there is excessive movement then there is play in the system, more than likely worn cups.

Mine failed on the wiper linkage last time. I got new wipers fitted, brought it up and it passed on the visual retest. However, another black mark against it on the original test was that the wipers stopped in whatever position they were in when the driver flicked them off. The tester was really nice, and when I told him that that was what they were meant to do he just crossed it off...

they also spent about ten minutes trying to oepn the bonnet -- they were looking under the ignition with torches and everything. I was over at the window knocking and pointing and saying -- 'It's on the front grille!!'

Helen, your wiper parking problem is down to a small white plastic switch on the underside of the wiper motor, it may just be corrosion but at worst you will have to change the switch, neither is too difficult nor expensive.

Went back for the Retest yesterday. All I had done was, replace the Wiper Arms and on SUnday night went under the Mini with some degreaser and cleand the passanger side of the gearbox. Discovered that the Inner CVJoiunt seal was leaking. Didn't do anything about it and went to the NCT. The same Inspector put it back up on the ramp , went underneath it for 30 seconds and then drove it off. I was called in , expecting the worst, only to see a printed cert on the desk.
"I told you the last time that the wiper linkage was loose, so you only changed the wiper arms, it is not too bad , so it has passed. You cleaned the gearbox, there is a small "O" ring at the side (inner CV joint), now there is a small drop of oil, last time it was leaking, this time there is only a drop, no leak, so it passes"
A nice Christmas present to me.

Does that mean that you are going to replace the CV boot or are you going to leave it for 2 years ????
