finished work at 11 and got about 1/2mile home when she conked out on me,me being me thought she ran out of petrol,so with a bit of help got pushed to the station, fine, she fired back into life, then conked out on me again, she doesn't spit or slutter she just dies in the middle of the road,so called for help, anyone that has seen my mini will know i can't be towed os a flat bed brought us home.the trouble is now she starts and sits idle for ages as soon as you add a few revs she conkes out again tried the pipe going into the float that pumps fuel out, just can't understand fine when idle but not with revs any help would be great thanks

something like that happened me just there...

i was running a wire from the starters permanent live to my radio... went well for a couple days then all of sudden wouldnt start, then got it push started but whenever i had to slow down and the revs dropped the engine would just conk and wouldnt start without a push...

turns out the radio sucked the life out of the battery... did you check your battery??
my battery still seemed like it had power but was producing a weak spark, so changed battery and sparked up no bother...

the other things i checked : (make me feel silly i didnt check battery first) ....... just to give u an idea as to wat i checked and you could too... dont quote me on that it'l fix the prob, could be something completely different but im sure someone else will correct me n help u ...

1. all wires and connections, starter, coil, distributor, earth connections.
2. checked the points gap and also for pitting, cleaned the distributor cap......
3. check for fuel.......... : take off the fuel to carburettor pipe, place the pipe into a bottle and turn the key for a sec, petrol should run into the bottle at a good pace as the engine turns...
4 . check the carb if there is dirt blocking the needles anywhere.

Steven for your radio feed you should take it from the fuse box, 2nd fuse down ,this should be the hazard lights/brake lights/horn fuse which is powered all the time.

Also if it is running the HIF44, make sure the breather hole on the side is blocked off and not leaking air.
