yep had a go at the lead loading alright :? didnt really work the best...
i dont have the right flux for the lead to stick to the body so its gonna have to wait untill i find/get the right flux... they seem to have nothing around cavan ere cant even get a litre can of zinc primer anywhere.. only stuff i got is water based anti-corrosive primer which i dont cant see workin on bare metal :?:
im selling my cd decks and gear http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=96560 to make some money to buy panels so i can keep tottin along

Re: Project Nancy

its cream actually

ok lil update...
after getting all those panels i got cracking and then slacked off again
i have been trying to keep doing stuff but as its all new to me its taking quite some time ..

i sanded the insides and applied a few layers of hammerite to the following:
both wings, scuttle panel, rear valence, both sills, a post panels...
and got the boot sanded and hammerited bottom and top and seam sealed most of the gaps etc...

so got the rear valence fitted and plug welded on

Image

had to make up a bracket to hold the rear seat belts

Image

i cut out my concoction attempt of a heelboard panel and used bought ones instead which are now welded on and subframe fits nicely

Image

Image
so i decided to start on the rear arches but they wouldnt fit exactly ( cause: warped rear arch repair panel  ) so i decided to crack on and seeing as that i will be getting 12 X 6 alloys at some stage i decided to tub the arches -->

Image

Image

has anyone ever done them or seen them done before the way im doing it?? the lip is cut back about an inch at the top...
will normal arches fit over this???

I recognise that wrapping on the panels.I,ll bet the credit card took a walloping for that lot but it will be worth it in the end.Great to see a project like this on the go.
Real Clubmans have a square nose.Seriously.

me n my mate jj got the arch fitted best as cud.. we had to push the rear quarter repair panel upwards slightly to get a bit of a curve in it, caused by distortion from previous welding :| ..
got the inner seam welded up, outside is tacked in place more pics to follow as camera died...

Image

going to be making the other side the same as shown so have the 2 inner arches (genuine) up for sale

me and a mate stripped most of the mini, windows, doors, sub box etc...
i have no logbooks for the car so if anyone would like to shed some light to me about getting new ones, using it as a donor or whatever way im meant to go about it???? :?:
my sister has already claimed it on the conditions that she'l pay for the parts and il fix it up for her :)

Tony
LOL :D
not really my thing but id say it looked the part in its day alright...

ok went a little mad with the camera earlier on so il let them do the talking on the different stages of progress, prepping etc etc...

Image

arch lip cut..

Image

before i found these brackets (well, actually realised where they were meant to go  ) i welded in a few seams you can see along the bottom of the arch to body to strenthen it a bit ...

Image

the same strengthening was done a bit later on after this was taken..

Image

as you can see seam sealed left hand arch.. the welds werent the best i thought and thats also why i ran a few seams on the inside to strenthen .

Image

right arch seam sealed

Image

look at pic with head tilted to the right
i got the a post door strenthening panel on last week but was big effort to get the old one of and ended up having to make up a piece to cover the red which is gone in the next bit.... was pain in the *^&

Image

tilt head to the right again
got a piece made up and welded on then ground down with the grinder using flap discs...
there were a few small holes once ground down so just spotted them up with the welder and ground down again...

Image

near finished piece just needs bit of sanding in awkward non grinder reachable places... :? once thats done flitch panel can be welded on

Image

i measured up & welded the a post panel in place with the door on, however the flitch repair panel was cut before all this :? theres a slight too many mm's of a gap near the top... gonna be a balls to weld..

Image

top of arch seamsealed

Image

and otherside.. had to actually do it twice as the first time the sealer reacted with the paint and cracked and would not harden properly...

Image

inside view

Image

again... just realised i need to weld the rear seat to arch

Image

lick of hammerite

Image

thats all for today.... not a whole pile but its progress :)

was out at the car for a bit today again.. got the flitch panel in and for the first time ever opened up the can of hammerite underseal which iv had for past few months... never realised what it was exactly and seems a good job. Does the stuff actually harden or wats the story with it???
undersealed both arches, the inside of the rear valance and underneath the sills... here some pics

Image

flicth panel welded in place..

Image

primed and painted..

Image

inside..

Image

underseal slapped on

Image

and again

Image

the sealer has cracked around the arch and that was after two layers of it... anyone know why??? its grey stripe seam sealer..

gone off the grey stripe seam sealer and dont advise anyone to buy it as its like a white spirit and runs of the paint
using dinitrol sealer instead, little more expenisve but it doesnt react with paint or primer...

got the other a post, flitch repair panel, left side sill welded on (right one going on tomoro) and have started the front end...
i got the scuttle welded in place earlier on...

the right flitch panel doesnt line up correctly with the door so im gonna have to mod that a bit but then its on to the dreaded a panel, wings and front... :?
can anyone guide me in what way to start as im not entirely sure... :?:

this is the order i was gonna start it |:
bonnet (just in case i forget it)
a panels
wings
front

do i bend the lip on the a panel and put a few tacks on it to keep it in place and work from there???

i have a feeling this is gonna take a long time :?

If possible i wouldnt weld anything at first, i'd clamp the whole lot together and line the whole lot up.
I know you have cut off the lips so that makes things a little harder so maybe a few tacks on the A panel mightn't be a bad idea and work from there.

I havn't had the pleasure of rebuilding the front of a mini yet but it would be the way i'd go.

cheers for reply..

putting the front of a mini together is like a jigsaw puzzle
i put the front subframe on so that it will line up with the front part, then the a panels and then the wings..
i got one of the a panels on by using this method http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/in ... opic=86131
then started to trial puzzle the front on to see how it all works out, and seems ok. :)
need to get the other a panel on fist before i go any further...

havent got the seats yet due to lack of funds but he's in no rush of getting rid of them so i know they are definately mine :D

havent done a whole pile as of late as i cant seem to get the motivation too, but heres some pics none the less...

Image

started to make a fibreglass dash that covers the top and bottom rail, putting centre speedo clock in.. its messy stuff.

Image

Image

got the scuttle welded in,.

Image

Image

sill on and de-lipped, needs touching up

Image

Image

the lip is sticking out to far even though the holes match up
lesson learned dont just assume it will line up that simple.. (otherside lined up nicely)

Image

rust

Image

and... treated and fixed

Image

otherside

Image

Image

sanded down, acid etch primed, painted, layer of underbody seal...

thats it so far....

took me awhile but got the front lined up and tacked into place today...
bonnet sticks out to far at the front but theres a big gap at the scuttle panel end too, so gonna mod the bonnet slightly so it can be moved back a little more and should fit nicely :)
once thats done plugwelding and deseaming the rest ét Voíla front end on!!!
