Southern Region Blarney Run - All members invited

Post by Billy »

Trip report and photos further on.

Following a good nather about SR events on the way home from the Autojumble last night, the southern region will have its next run on Oct 27th, the Bank Holiday Monday.

We'll be starting from Blarney, Co. Cork and to make the most of the limited daylight, we'll be meeting at 10.30am for an 11am kick-off.

As meself, Johnny, Tom Sullivan x2 (Cork & Limerick), Goose, plimerick, Baker, 1973 and others from Munster made the trek to Dublin yesterday, we'd like a few of the Eastern Region to make a big effort to join us on October 27th.

If you're nice, we might be able to sort accommodation for ye on the night before, but only if ye're nice.

For now, put it in your diary.

More details anon,

Billy

We'll be meeting at one of the petrol stations in Blarney where lads can refuel and have a cuppa.

The October bank holiday weekend is the Jazz weekend in Cork so there's always a good crowd around.

Mallow is a 20 minute drive from Blarney.

I should be there as long as I get a few niggly bits sorted before that.
And I said, Officer, I didn't want to be drunk in public...I wanna be drunk in the bar. Now last time I checked it was still legal to be drunk in the bar. They threw me into public...arrest them!

Looking good for Monday.

It you are going Jazzing on Sunday night, don't arrive to Blarney on Monday morning still half-steamed cos we wouldn't want anyone to fail a breath test, would we? Seriously guys, it's a bank holiday weekend and the Guards are usually more stringent as a result.

Take it easy over the weekend.

Dave,

Come in off the Limerick road and we'll be at the 1st petrol station on the LHS.

Do you want a seat for the day?

Tom, the weather is like a rollercoaster here this week. Every second day it's crap. So far today though it's looking good and I heard the forecast again this morning and it sounds promising again tomorrow.

Re: Southern Region Blarney Run - Brilliant day out!

Post by Billy »

Just back from a brilliant day's Mini-ing. Great weather, a lovely route, and a "handsome" selection of Minis.

Well done to Johnny Murphy for organising the route and the spuds. We had a dozen cars from five counties, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Waterford, and Kildare. The prize for furthest travelled had to go to Minilady and crew who came down this morning from Newbridge, Co. Kildare and a close second went to Dick Mason, Mike Maloney, and Michael Lynch from Tralee.

We had 2 Hornets (Johnny Murphy and Eamon Foley) and 1 Riley Elf (Mike Maloney). Mike was the man who put KMG in the direction of that lovely Cork-reg van he extricated near Sneem last year.

We had both Tom O'Sullivans with us. Tom Cork debuted his recently rebuilt '93 which he welded and sprayed himself.

There were 2 Sportspacks but excessive surfing and partying saw them slope off early. We won't embarass ye by mentioning names lads.

Our route took us from Blarney over to Ballincollig for a quick tour, on then through Ballygarvan, a ladies pitstop in Carrigaline and a photo stop at Candem Fort outside Crosshaven. While we were there, a '56 Ford Prefect pulled up and we received an invite from the Crosshaven vintage club to join them on their run on November 9th.

From Crosshaven we went back to Carrigaline and took the Currabinny road out to Ringaskiddy and on through Raffeen to Monkstown and the ferry. DaveC had been camped out since the night before to take pictures of our arrival and following a quick handshake to express our gratitude, we left Dave at the side of the road to head for Cobh. A planned tour of the Cobh Heritage Centre was shelved as tummies were still on "Old Time" and so we decided to go for the spuds instead.

The Rising Tide in Glounthaune was an inspired choice by Johnny and was a perfect round-up to the day. As promised, we finished up by 4pm to allow most people get home in daylight.

Again well done to all that turned up to prove that the Mini scene is still alive and well down south.

Photos to follow,
