Well done to all that took part in last weekend's MTM. The fact that every Mini made the run without a single breakdown proves the whole point that it's possible to do the length of Ireland in a car that was designed 50 years ago. Good man Alec.

Last year we had a point to prove in running the event and the call to classic owners was well answered. 2008 was all about enjoying ourselves as well during the Run. I even managed to eat during the day which I didn't last year! The fact that so many of the MTM2007 entrants came back for more proves that the classic format works and there's life in the MTM concept yet (as long as the M's are for both Mizen and Malin or vice versa).

A few words of thanks:

To those from Donegal, NI, Sweden, Wales, and England, an especially big thanks;

To Maxi for designing the rally plagues;

To Zak and Majella for doing the 2 check-ins;

To Simon and Landy Andy for the breakdown service even though it wasn't needed;

To the Malin Hotel and the West Lodge for making rooms available especially to the night porter in Bantry;

To Mervyn Johnston for putting up with us taking over his garage and drooling over all those fine Minis;

To Mary Barry in the Ramble Inn for making the sambos;

To the members of the public who came out to cheer us on especially those of my own and Emmett Hales' family/ neighbours in Ballyhooly;

To all of you who took part (I said that one already but it's worth mentioning a second time). MTM2008 wouldn't have happened if ye didn't sign up.

Enjoy the rest of this year's Mini season and we'll hopefully meet loads of you again on June 8th at the IMOC National Mini Day.

All the best,

Billy

Got an email from Mattias today, just letting you all know that he got home safely and is happily back at work :roll:

After the MTM, he spent a few days in Ireland and bought the back of a MKII Mini. made a rack from some pallets, got a set of roof bars and stuck the whole lot to the roof of the Mini.
He went on to tour the Scottish Highlands before getting the ferry to Norway where he spent a week driving around, as you do.

He eventually reached home last weekend.

In total he covered 9996 Km on his trip which started on the 25th April.

As yet he hasn't confirmed for next years event, but we'll work on that over the next few months.

Billy,

I see a write up on the MTM in the latest IVVCC magazine, written by Robin McCullagh and Mike Dennehy. Will scan a copy and send it on to you

Have you sorted the dates out for next year? and can i have a rough cost to do it,including ferries.
I am from Brown Monkey Mini Club from Cornwall and we have 4 cars that might want to do it.

Many thanks Matt

We're not worthy! We're not worthy!

Seriously Matt, yourself and the Brown Monkey crew would be very welcome.

Watch this space or to be more accurate, the one that will say MTM2009.
