Autotesting

Post by 66mini »

There does not appear to be any interest in doing this (apart from Billy).

Any comments ?

I have yet to see this happening anywhere in the Dublin region, maybe if there was more there would be more interest.

The question is where is the Dublin region i have attended events at Mondello Park, Newbridge, Manooth. In fact find a car park and you can have an event.

We have to start somewhere

Here's a link to Motorsports Ireland's website giving details of what you need to go autotesting.

http://www.motorsportireland.com/index.cfm/loc/7-7.htm

According to their calendar, there are autotests in the Midlands and Carrick-on-Suir next month i.e. January 2008.

We could surely organise a bunch of cars to attend.

I,d love to do this but it would be at least next year before I could see myself have time to build a car.In the meantime I must finish a mini restoration on the RSP,get the estate ready for the IMM and start a full restoration on the 61 van.But after that I should be free.

We looked into organising a club autotest years ago, but there was too many problems with Public Liability Insurance, both for the club and the venue. We ran a joint one at one stage with the Trial Drivers Club at a charity day in UCD. They run a novice class for anyone interested in starting out

I reckon the way to do this is walk before you run. If we had Minis entered in the existing competitions, then we could perhaps build up a following and maybe build up a bit of rivalry between teams. The craic for the 1st year would probably just to complete an event without making complete eejits of ourselves. It would probably be great publicity for the IMOC as well.

Why don't we start by meeting up at an event, get talking to a few competitors and learn about what's involved.

Well if anyone is interested then we could do a little run to the first Autotest of 2008 which is being organised by the Midland Motor Club, I checked the Motorsports Ireland website and it has the event down for the 21st of January, which is a Monday, but a subsequent phone call to the events organiser revealed that it is in fact being held on the Sunday.

It is taking place in an industrial estate just on the outskirts of Longford town, on the Athlone road. exact location will be decided upon the day, depending on weather conditions.

The start time is 11:00 o'clock, and action gets underway fairly promptly as there is very little scruteneering to be done before hand.

There are a few different tests courses to be completed, each done a number of times, so when one car is finished a test, it heads off to the next test and the next competitor starts the first test, so there is action ongoing all the time.

The event should finish up at about 4:00 o'clock or so.

(Longford is a small town located outside the M50, about 1 hours drive west of Maynooth, English is widely spoken, as is Polish, the currency is the Euro, so no need to change money before you go, you will however have to set your watches back by about 5 years.)

Will there be tae and sambos?

This sounds like a handy link-up with the ER monthly meeting on Jan 20th.

Maybe the WR lads could be contacted as well (as apparently no one in Galway uses this forum).
