Hi All,

Having trouble getting my mini to start. When i turn the key I just get the click sound at solenoid. This happens even with a jump. I have plus 12V at the battery, at battery side of Solenoid and at starter side of solenoid. Have also 12V at starter itself where solenoid cable connects. When I put it into top and rocked it I got the starter to move lazily just once all other attempts to do this just left me hearing the clicking sound opn trying the key - Is my starter finished??

Any help would be great Thanks,
Dave.

Have you checked the brushes in the starter motor.Check with your haynes manual to see which type you have and it should show you how to check the brushes for wear.

Have not done that yet - but I will - Just wanted to check that the problems lies in the starter - I usually dive head first in and take pictures later ha ha

Cheers.

There is an old fashioned way of testing the system but you need a set of jump leads.

Remove the battery (which i assume is good) and bring to the engine. Connect jump lead to terminal on starter and other left free and away from the car, connect battery to jump leads as per normal. With the car in neutral and off find a good earth on the engine/ starter, not the engine strap ( i assume this is good also) and if the motor turns it is not it. This is best done out of the car but ok with care in the car.

I understand the car is rolling free so it is not the bendix.
