I was just wondering if anyone here can point me in the right direction, I was looking at a classic truck with the reg number YZL *** and was told it was a 1965 but i think YZL is a 1970's plate, is there anywhere on the net or anyone here know a bit about the old irish reg's.

Prior to Jan '87 when the 87D-type reg was introduced, if you imported a vehicle you got a reg no. of the day. For example, if you imported a 1965 vehicle in Dublin in 1986, you got a ZS *** reg which was a 1986 reg, irrespective of the age of the vehicle.

If the vehicle is currently on the road, it should be listed on http://www.cartell.ie. A basic search is free and you can pay more if you want more info.

Hope it helps,

Billy
