MOndello Park Mini Trackday - 11 May 2007

Post by wzd345 »

I have booked Mondello Park for the afternoon of 11 May for a Minis trackday.

The event will be run by my company: Irish Racing Cars Ltd, and is open to all Mini owners to come & have a go. The cost will be 110 Euro (incl vat) for a car & driver, with an additional driver paying 20 Euro. Cars must be roadworthy and will be checked. Drivers must be over 18 years & hold a full licence.

The format is: arrive between 12.30 & 13.30, signon & briefing. On track from 14.00 to 17.30, in groups of 15 cars for 10/15 mins at a time. Cars will be grouped based on value & performance.

Book your space via email to: irishracingcars@yahoo.co.uk.

No space can be reserved without payment, details to follow.

I have good interest from about 20 drivers so far - the price is well below what Mondello charge for the public trackday.

Come & enjoy.

Eamonn

Well done for organizing this Eamonn. It's been a while since the IMOC had it's last track day, memories of Mr Fahey spinning the tyres on Ro's Turbo and Paul parking in the kitty litter come flooding back. :D

And now Paul has a turbo to park in the kitty litter!
Do you think he'll let Eamon drive it?

Lads, I think it's bookings not banter that Eamonn is looking for. There's loads from Miniresource signed up already. It's 8 years since our last Mondello outing, if people want another one, then send on the deposits as per Eamonn's e-mail above.

Its a pity this is on before MTM, woody needs some engine work so I won,t be trashing it before then. When you say the car must be roadworthy does that include taxed and insured? Could take the turbo out of hibernation ,it hasn't moved for 2 years and bring it on a trailer.

What I mean by roadworthy is that it will pass a a safety examination prior to going on track in respect of the following: steering, brakes, balljoints, not leaking oil & water.

The turbo will be fine if trailered up & from what I hear will be a great addition to the fleet. There will be several competition cars trailered to the event including DZU 499 - my Mini Miglia Historic Racer - The Ebay Mini from last year's Phoenix Park races.

Come on you guys, lets get rolling, I have had a dozen cheques in so far to book places but need the numbers up if its going to happen.

All Minis are welcome - this is not a speed event or race, just the opportunity to stretch the legs of your car, irrespective of its speed capability, in a racetrack environment. You will also have a chance to smoop around under some very exciting bonnets & get some tips.

Update

To date I have had a good response, consisting of 22 firm interests declared & 6 conditionals - dependant upon having the car ready. There are quite a few who have not declared. 12 payments received, with a further batch in the post over this weekend. Looks like I will be able to reach the quota for this to become a viable project, but now need further firm bookings. Get your cheque books out folks & join us.

regards

STOP PRESS

Mini magazine have confirmed that they will cover the trackday - sending a reporter & snapper. Have been asked to to submit to them a short list of suitable cars booked for the event which will appear in future magazine features. They will do a full shoot on the afternoon of the trackday & will be around over the weekend to cover the featured cars.

This is a major coup, as they have been here just once in the last 8 years for car features & the waiting list for consideration at this mag is huge.

The shoot & features project is exclusive to trackday participants.

A standard Mini should be about 1.20 - my Miglia racer will do 1.09. A racing historic Lotus Elan 1.03, Lotus 23b & Tiger 1.01.

The game is a simulation.

What I mean is Game = simulation. The times I have quoted are actual times recorded in race & my estimate of what a standard Mini will do.

Very few from IMOC have booked. I have taken bookings & payment in full for 31 cars, with a further 5 pending at this time. My own historic racer will be there & a few tarmac rally cars - subject to them surviving the previous weekend action.

Photographer & reporter from Mini Magazine will attend for the event & will select 5/6 cars for special features.

Early cheap booking rate is now closed as of 1 April - the cost is €130 for car & driver, with additional driver @ €20.
