I know of a place that used to be near Ushers Quay. Can't remember their name or where exactly they are. I think they were called Ushers Island Upholsterers and they were somewhere behind the Statoil station or there abouts... I'm sure they're still there because a lot of of taxi drivers used them to get seat covers tailored. They used to be very good but kinda pricy.
I know it's not much help but it's the only place I know of.

I was tempted to use them in the past because of the high quality finish. The last car I remember seeing fitted with their seat covers was a Nissan Primera and I swear I thought the car was fitted with leather seats but they were vinyl and fit very well...
Hope this has been some help.

hello-I don't often post here as I'm fairly new to the mini-owning world.

Instead of starting a new thread I thought Id jump on this one.

I was wondering, would these people be able to help me with a split and stain in my car roof/ceiling?

From the look of it it split some time ago and someone tried to repair it with a greasy glue that didn't take.

So now I have a hole surrounded by a big greasy stain.

Would this be an upholsters job?

Hi Johnny and welcome to the forum.

With regard to you head cloth, the cheapest option would probably be to get a new one from Somerford or the like, or if you wanted to go a bit more luxurious, places like Woolies in the UK are trim specialists and they sell the material, you could use your old cloth as a pattern.

Ian Conlon has a home-made head cloth in his GT.

Removing and refitting the head cloth is a difficult job, the front and rear screens and the quarterlights need to come out. Getting them back in is the hardest bit.

F J KEOGH motor factors at Blessington St.. Dublin 7, have headcloth to suit but as it is a roll you would have to make and cut , glue to suit ! Therefor ordering English stuff may be the best. Its still a tricky job with glass removal etc, for early mk 1/2, the headcloth clips in on its own frame, no glass removal.

I remember in my old GT there was a black headcloth fitted. But it was just glued to the old one. There were seperate panels stitched together like the original one and it looked ok. It was a DIY job but one that didn't require stitching loops for the rods that are hidden behind the headcloth.

But I remember fitting a new headcloth to the Hornet. What a pain. Especially re-fitting the rear screen because it's like a Mk1 rear screen and not easy to get hold of a replacement if you lose the head and break the one you've got...

Neil. Did you say Ian Conlon has a 1275GT?!? I'll believe that when I see it, he he... I thought it was just a myth.

It's true all right, I think he is restoring it, it's a big job and Killian says he hasn't put much of a dint in it yet.

Poor Ian never recovered from the time he spun the GT going up the gravel hill near Birr many moons ago. The front valence took a beating as well. I was the passenger and all I remember was when we hit the rock which did the damage, my right hand was on the steering wheel trying to turn it the other way!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

The job sounds a lot bigger than i thought. I really cant see
successfully doing it by myself.

I'll look into the English suggestions and eventually get an expert on the case I reckon

now, where to find an expert.........

Yeah Johnny, don't be put off by the negative comments. It's not a hard job but it is an awkward one that requires many pairs of hands and a lot of patience.

And Billy, I actually have some "after" pictures of Ians car that same weekend in Birr. That was the same weekend my old GT had its last outing too. The last thing I remember Ian saying after you and him got back from the gravel run was that he needed to get a new valance, wing and pair of boxer shorts...

Those scans would be great! thanks

Of all the things I really need doing I reckon i can leave the ceiling to the bottom of the list for now before roping in a few mates to help

I'd be curious to see those scans just to see how awkward the job is!:)

Hi Johnny, you wont need too many hands, get a packet of clothes pegs and after you evo-stick edges and top of windows clamp all round until glue dries,..patience is the key.
