Malin To Mizen MTM2007 - GAME ON!!!!!!!!!!

Post by Billy »

Following from the IMOC committee meeting on Sat October 14th, the committee has agreed to the proposal we put forward for MTM2007.

At this point we can confirm the following:

1. For the first time in its history, the IMOC MTM will start at Malin Head;
2. Classic Minis & derivatives only - no exceptions;
3. The actual run will take place in one day;
4. The whole event will take place in May 2007 - date to be confirmed;
5. Taking part in MTM2007 won't be overly expensive. We want to encourage Mini enthusiasts young and old to take part, not to price them out.

That's all for the moment. Over the coming months, we will be attending IMOC regional meetings to promote the event, provide more details, and get support and feedback from IMOC members around the country.

There you have it.

Thanks for that Maxi.

I think that the more Mini Clubs that take part the better. Looking forward to seeing representatives from every Mini Club in the country and further afield.

TMG is right in saying that other clubs are welcome on MTM2007. Support from the likes of the Donegal Mini Club and Miniresource at the National Mini Day in Co. Galway earlier this month was much appreciated.

Paul,

the reason for it being next year is that there already was an MTM early this year.

When you're doing the length of Ireland in 1 day, daylight is a factor as the 1st Mini will probably be leaving Malin Head at 6am! You also want to see the cars arriving that evening in Mizen.

MTM isn't for the faint-hearted but it's a great test of you and your Mini!

Thats brilliant, I will now set may 2007 as my "gotta have the thing built by then" Date

Well done on getting it pushed through, Hopefully, if this run is sucessfull, some more Classic mini endurance runs will start being organised (weather by the IMOC or elsewhere).

Woody - "Roll on the Classics" there's faith in my workmanship, or yours.

"Drive out the Classics" should be the call.

I suggested to Billy that a trendy logo for the trip could be "MTM Deconstructed" ie, a stripped down, back to basics run, however, Billy just doesn't like anything modern eg, 13 inch wheels, MPI, etc.

Ah Zak, even if you don't get the Hornet ready in time, your MPi Sportspack with 13" wheels will be very welcome.

You should read a book called "Coleman's Drive" where a lad called John Coleman in the 50's drove a 1920's Austin Seven from Argentina to New York and there's a lot of them kinda roads along the way.

Dave, the story of TMG blowing a head gasket on the first MTM in '99, fixing it at the side of the road and driving the rest of the way to Malin almost sounds wimpish to what your namesake got up to. Coleman's Drive is a great read!

Last Sunday we had our first brainstorming session on the running of MTM2007. Basically, our plan is to officially launch MTM2007 at the IMOC EGM on November 19th. Make sure you attend to hear the details first!

Hey Ro. At the moment I'm delighted my Beemer makes the daily trip from Cavan to Dublin never mind Malin to Mizen. It isn't a classic yet but give it another couple of years though and I won't actually mind paying the road tax if it's a classic.
But enough about Beemers... I though this was a Mini forum.
