We did IMM2011 in Switzerland and had to pass through France. At one point, I used 98 octane and my Mpi ran like a donkey. Once I went back to the 95, which is what's commonly available in Ireland, it ran perfectly.

FWIW,

I tried the 98 oct in the SPi going to Italy and it ran nicer, quieter and better mpg. Used it every 3 or 4 fills.First fill in France will be 98 .

can I suggest, people get on the ferry with a full tank, so that, when we get off we can make the same distance before needing fuel, which will reduce the number of petrol stops and safe a lot of time.

According to the AA, petrol prices in France are currently the same as here i.e. €1.25/litre. Belgium is slightly more expensive at €1.30/litre

Might be worth a detour to Luxembourg to fill up for the return journey 8)

Could throw in a sneaky lap of Spa on the way ;)
